Paying to get that toolbar off of there is not currently the preferred option, although it may be later. Thanks for the links.

Spybot S&D is free to use, "freeware." I use this on all the systems that I manage at work. I also use Clamwin http://clamwin.com for virus detection.

Ad-Aware SE Personal should be free to use.

I have a budget of $0.00 for MS Windows so I am always on the lookout for free solutions for problems.

OpenOffice is a very good, actually better replacement for office, nice thing is it'll do MS stuff too.

On my own desktop at work I use Linux. Open Office has gotten me by for reading and writing MS .doc files.

This is the basic software setup for the office, I can't use OO and am forced to have MS Office

MS Windows 2000 Pro
Firefox
Thuderbird
Clamwin
Spybot S&D

The backend file and print servers are running Fedora Core 4 with Samba

OK. For now, between IE6 SP1 and SpyWareBot, I got it cleaned up. No more mysterious Internet Connection calls, etc. Connection speed is normal given the 56k modem and dirt cheap community ISP.

That's it for now. We have to get back to Texas. If anything shows up I can talk the FIL through scanning and clean-up.

Thanks all. I'm thinking seriously of implementing some of your suggestions at home - try to get off that NAV subscription.

Thanks, again all. Happy New Year.
