Comanche Eliminator retardedness

I know this is a bit juvenile, but this guy on another forum I go to swears up and down that he has an 80s Comanche Eliminator with some special from the factory go-fast parts on it. He says it has a 5 speed auto, bigger brakes, and a much more powerful 4.0 in it, capable of 14 sec 1/4 miles!

His reasoning and way of not-explaining it follows the logic that AMC put the same part numbers on dramatically different things in his MJ, that the dealer is barely able to find. So it seems like it's a regular Comanche, but in fact, it is a special racing comanche! It was specially ordered, and none were on the dealer lots back when his father bought it, which I'm also calling B.S. on.

Now I know that arguing on the internet is retarded, but all i'm looking for is any proof that AMC/Chrysler did ANYTHING like this, and did any older 4.0 have any more HP than 177/190? I highly doubt it.

Not that I'm aware of. They did a "Street" Comanche, but it wasn't any faster.

AMC/Chrysler certainly did support racing Comanches at one time, and offered a number of go-fast mods for those who prepped them. It's unclear from the book whether Jeep Motorsports was a factory organization or just heavily sponsored, but they certainly were out there, and Comanches were once the hot ticket for small truck racing.

I have a Mopar Performance manual from 1990 which offers tuning and modification instructions for both the 2.5 and the 4.0 which were raced in various classes. For the book collector types, this was Mopar part # P4529529, formally titled Jeep Engines, subtitled "Speed Secrets and Racing Modifications for Jeep-built 4,6, and V8 Engines."

For the 4.0 (my book only includes REnix era, pre-91 engines, of course), Mopar Performance offerings included bare blocks, a high performance crankshaft, heavy duty timing chain, shot-peened rods, oversized pistons, ported heads, a special high performance ECU, and a smorgasbord of high performance camshafts, along with various minor mods and parts. Some of the recommended performance parts were stock parts, sold bare, hand picked and magnafluxed, but may well have borne no special numbers or stampings, though they may have had a "P" prefix in the parts lists.

Of course none of this guarantees that your friend's comanche contains exotic parts, but there is no doubt that they existed.

Research Grasshopper, research.

Here is a link to Mopar Performance.

Look under Street for your Jeep engine parts.
Performance books for...well...performace books.

The hard copy of the catalog used to give perfomace package build ups as "Tech Tips".
These were combinations of parts that would, once dialed in, would make that particular chassis/engine combination do X seconds. Still, this isn't mystic stuff. The same exact speed secrets that work on a big block drag car work on a "small" cube motor.

I remember having my ass dusted by a commanche or two when I had my S-10, some dustings were minimal others were 'whoa, wtf', then the typhoon came out and evened the scores :D.
Couple of owners up here have either fully restored, two that I know of, or are still totally original and just about mint. One of the original 'Eliminators' a guy got as a graduation present, he went in the service and stayed for 20 years, he put the MJ into storage in one of his familys outbuildings on their farm and now that he's home he drives it on weekends, I see him at the postoffice on sat's when I go to pick up the mail, paint is getting a bit rough though on the hood. It's also got a few go fast parts under the hood and the interesting thing is he said it came with them when he got it, oh, it's only a 2wd. Whether it was a factory setup or dealer add on he does not know.

hmmm... agreed. the less you know the more you brag about it.
