Comache long door extra cab

i mean what i really wanted from the start was a long door extended cab.just the cab.no front clip from the firewall forward ,no rear clip from the cab back.i want to make a full frame then bolt the cab to that.make an exo cage to protect it the best that i can .as for pieces that can be replaced like the doors or front fenders what ever they can be unbolted and replaced.

some friends of mine did something like that using a 98 4 door. it is a full framed, longer cab with a tube pick up "style" rear. the rear houses a winch, gas and fuel tank.

i was going to post pics but it wont let me. if you want to check it out.

TO many lights I agree. The hood looks like a stealth fighter plane... but cool.

Wil - how are you gunna go about adding strength back to the rear of the leaf spring frame area?

just so there is no more confusing as to what is happening here

still need to trim up the bottom of the cab

the pile of Xj is getting bigger

i'm shooting for a 6" window and will most likely just use some Lexan for it since it will be a trail rig .the last thing i want to deal with is find or have a window cut just to drag it across a rock and smash it.

as for how i'm creating the rest of the lip. i have three sides from the original window the only side i have to make is the cab side.i have made one piece out of what was left of part of the roof frame.i still have enough left to make one more.if they don't turn out right i will just have to fab up two pieces that are about 18" long.

I'm just curious here, cause this was my plan, and I think it would hold up well...

get a set of doors from a 2 door xj, and get a spare comanche cab (from about mid-door back).

get a longbed comanche with engine troubles or whatever (heck, a bad box would justify this)

chop the back of the longbed comanche off, after removing the bed.

remove comanche doors

bolt on 2 door cherokee doors.

then get a shortbed comanche bed, and chop the rear of your longbed frame off about 8.5 inches. set the bed on, and adjust to fit. center it over the axle.

next, take your spare comanche cab section, and cut to fit doors. this way you only have one seam to weld, meaning body work will be that much easier.

now, you have a extended cab comanche (not enough room for rear seat, but for storage and leg room).

this would give you a great departure angle lwb comanche, with an extended cab. it would have the problem of high center in some cases, but mostly it would work.

and if the motor was bad in the comanche, well, now is the time for that cummins 4bt!

the problem I see with that is the frame rails after the cab. They curve upwards, so I'm not sure you could just drop the back half of the MJ cab on there without reworking the bottom so it fit properly.

you can...you'd just have to alter the cab section, rather than the rail section...

after seeing the difference between an Xj rail and a Comanche rail i would say it would be better to graft the rear half of an Xj to a Comanche .the rails on the Comanche are flat after the cab

why would you graft the rear half of an xj to a comanche? that would be turning a comanche into a xj.

oh wait.

yes.

...but I think extending a comanche cab is the best way to go, using xj parts.

to make an extra cab and keep it as some type of street driven vehicle.

I have always figured one would use the rear vent window from a older 2 door.

Lexan cures all. Except you can't tint it, as it gasses out all the time (air bubbles would form no matter what).

You can buy pretinted lexan though. Where they use a dye or whatever.....it's not a film, etc.

I would rather use a longbed comanche and extend the cab and add a short box to it. Although your idea will work just fine, only involving more labor time.
I love the idea, and may build a 4 door version someday!

well i went over to Harbor Freight to get some more goodies to help the project along

some dollies ,hammer, air flanging/hole punch tool, spot weld cutter, and a magnet welding brace.

was feeling bored and now that i have the flanging tool i can't wait to get after it tomorrow morning.

so i played with photochop again.this is pretty much exactly what i wanted in the first place
