Colorodans with Welders

I need some help with my doors.

I pulled the trim today, and the bottom of the door came with it. The doors have been rotted out since I bought it. I have just been too scared to face reality.

I am at school here in Wyoming, and have the idea of someone welding new sheets of steel onto the bottom of the doors after cutting off the cancer. Is this a reasonable idea? I don't really want to buy a few gallons of bondo.

I'll drive just about anywhere to get this fixed right. It won't be free work either, I'll pay.

I have this week off of school.

Thanks for any help

you might be able to find a set of doors to just replace them instred of tring to patch the old one give the local parts yard a call i bet you could find a set of a goood price

Well, there are no scratches on my doors, the paint matches, and have my beloved wing windows. There aren't any real junkyards around here, and I just think it would be easier/cheaper to repair the skin.

If I did get new doors, I'm sure they'd rust out over the winter.

haha yea rust is in issue up here in alaska as well ..well it used to be they no longer use salts on the roads during winter ..goodluck wiht the patches man i can understand going the cheeper route and if i have to lil windows like that i would keep them too lol

They make patch panels called "J-panels" to repair the bottoms of doors. Basically flat sheetmetal with a bend along the bottom edge that needs to be hammered and dollied into shape. The top edge is welded or glued to the door and finised w/filler. This is alot of work and can usually justify the cost of replacement doors. Just depends on your bodywork skills and the condition of the shell of the door (the inner part of the door that the patch will wrap around). These repair panels are normally used when replacement doors can't be found or are to expensive. For a cherokee, I would look for used doors. You can change all 4 in a matter of hours instead of days of bodywork. Just my opinion though...

Some u-pull-it yards as cheap as $50.00 a door, or locating sevices, as much as $500.00 a door. Try a U-pull-it first/best prices, you'll have to take them off yourself, but good practice if your planning to install them yourself anyhow. If you can't find any place local, try "car-parts.com", put in your zip and do a search. U-pull-it yards don't list here, but you still can find good deals here. Hope this helps!!!

Fixing doors is a PIA. Reskinning doors is an art and not to be taken lightly. Andersons in Greeley is your best bet. You can swap the wing window portion in a few minutes.

I started searching craigs list shortly after creating this thread, and found some doors in Denver (3 hours away, I'm in Wyoming) and contacted the guy. He said no rust/damage (1993). I said all I have is $160. He was kinda irritated, but said "OK, but not a penny less". I'm going to call him tonight to confirm for this weekend.

Do they have to be green? The local self service yards come in way under that price.

I'm kinda screwed for time this weekend, otherwise I'd go shop these guys for you: http://pullnsave.com/index.html
I saw a few two-doors there 2 weeks ago. Now I need to get some stuff back for a refund.

I'll keep an eye out, just keep us updated.

have u gone over to ace salvage?? its over the highway on the south end of town. they got a few XJ's in there all the time usaully. im in laramie too over on that end of town.

I'd agree with Tom (old_man) on trying Anderson's in Greeley. There's a couple yards on the SE side of Cheyene that I'f heard good things about, too.

Then ones I'm looking to get aren't green. $160 for four is extremely cheap from what I've seen.

I looked at yards in the denver area and they want $200 (cheapest) for EACH door.

foxwar: You Serious? The Jeep picture doesn't look familiar to you? It's Mike.

Ahhhh, 4 doors! Most common body style in the yard. $160 is not bad, just off the top I think pull-n-save wants $35 per door, + core, + tax, + EPA fee (another tax). They were bought out, the on-line price list vanished. :-( I think you just missed a weekend special at $20 each.

$200 EACH DOOR?!?!?!? So if you want all 4, they come with the Jeep still attached...right? I may get to hit the yard Saturday after all, PM me if you want me to look while I'm there.
