Colorado "For Sale" Forum?

I notice while looking at the NAXJA Chapters sub-forum (http://www.naxja.org/forum/forumdisplay.php?f=15) that there are sub-forums for most of the Chapters for their For Sale and even BOD discussions...would a Colorado For Sale forum serve the purpose better than a Sticky?

Dunno. :dunno: Discuss the difference between a sub-forum and a sticky where for sale threads are concerned.

Sub-forum cons:

-Takes more space. Guy lists stuff for sale, then there's reply posts that go on and on for each listed item...... those kinds of things really should be via PM. All the "Would ya take $__ for it?" and "Will this fit my rig?" types of discussions are just clutter.

-Moderating a sub-forum just ads to the number of posts we mods have to look thru.

-Requires a few more clicks to look at everything listed. One thread allows you to scroll rather than having to click each subject heading then click out of it to go to the next one.

Sub-forum pros:

-Listed items can be seen a bit easier by subject title instead of having to scroll thru 2 pages...... but using our current single thread sticky - is it really that difficult to click on the "go to last post" icon which takes you to the end of the listings - where the new ones are and scroll up thru the latest ones? Then we also rely on the poster to give a descriptive title. "Misc. Parts", "Wanted to buy", and other general titles require you to click to read 'em. Our current thread style allows you to see both the title and the content at one time.

-If/when the For Sale items are being posted more frequently where it gets to be several pages in our current thread, then a sub-forum would likely be a good idea. As it is, I delete ads every 30 days. Keeps things to 1 or 2 pages.

Then there's the whole issue of a USER displaying an expired member number with over 4,000 posts asking silly questions...... :D
Get RED dood!

Any other comments/suggestions about this?

A link from the "Local" page would be nice. I look at the sticky because I'm here, not the other way around.

Not following you on this - can you elaborate please? "Local" page?

My bad! The Colorado chapter page is my idea of "local". It's the only :NAXJA: page in my bookmarks. If I want to skim the tech forums I go from here. I'm not interested in loading up my bookmarks or hunting down another forum just to see what is for sale in this area.

I imagine we could. But what I'm asking for is you guys to explain why it's better than what we're currently doing. I'm all for hearing good ideas to make things better, but simply asking why we don't do things this way or that way gets nothing accomplished.

Explain your reasons please.

BTW: I really am not impressed with CO 4x4 and their moderators. Format of the site aside, their admin. is way too controlling and nitpicky.... So, don't expect moderation changes along those lines.

Would having the subforum allow the thread starter to edit/delete their ad? The way it is now makes it difficult (unless I'm missing something) to update the status of the available items. I saw in the thread rules that the mods should be contacted to update/delete posts, but that seems to be very burdensome and unnecessary. If you could make it where the posts can be edited/deleted, then I don't see a need to change the overall structure.

That's something certainly worth looking into. Thanks!

That's a good idea Joe. Troy you could spend less time editing posts and more time getting yella squared away. :D

i agree completely...

but if it werent for their forsale forum, my old tj would have been stock.

80% of my old tj was bought from used parts off co4x4. Hell the only thing I bought new for it was my tires/lift.

Joe, I believe you've struck the spirit of what I was suggesting. Part of it is to make it easier on the mods (no more requests to "add this pic" or "change the price" ) but also to clean it up a wee bit.

Oddly, I find myself spending more of my limited online time at CO4x4 than over here these days. I still drop by the OEM Tech just to see the "what axle do I have" threads so that I can respond with a frakkin' picture, but with working 50+ hours a week both NAXJA and CO4x4 are low on my "to-do" lists. Can't wait 'til I can bump that up to 60+ hours a week just so that I can afford to pay for my gas to get to work. :banghead:

Now that makes sense. Whenever the moderator says "enough", I'm good with that type of change. I don't worry much about editing. The time limit we currently have goes way beyond my need or desire to make any changes.

Lets moderate the threads into oblivion and scare anybody who is not a red member away. Bad plan.

LMAO!!!
He's giving Yucca-Man crap for letting his membership expire. They give each other crap often.
