Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

That looks nice. I could get to and from the river in comfort and probably be able to get to places like Ptarmigan Lake (probably comparable to China Wall from what I recall). I should add these to the list of vehicles to drive. Thanks guys.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

My parents have a 2010 Liberty (also have a 2012 JK) and like it a lot. Sis just bought a brand new Cherokee a seems to like it as well.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

The taco got a new grill instead of that ugly factory crap.

As far as Liberty, the old crd were awesome.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Well I found two very nice 2012 Liberty's down in Springs that I'll go look at and drive hopefully Monday. Heather's first state vehicle was a first generation Liberty and she drove that thing all over creation without any issues. I read a few reviews saying the motor was a bit gutless but she always raved about that vehicle (she was leery of getting it after having that ratty 2001 XJ). Now her new vehicle she got last year is a 2014 Cherokee Latitude. It's had some recalls and her co-workers have had some weird stuff happen to theirs but her's, again, has been rock solid. I wasn't aware that thing was a 4 cylinder until last night. I've only driven it up the driveway when shuffling cars but she says it's got plenty of power and gets close to 30mpg.

One more question about the Liberty's is there a preference on which t-case I should be looking at?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Not really, more your preference than anything.

The Select-Trac® II is the MP3022 two-speed, on-demand, active four-wheel drive transfer case that provides optimum traction for a wide range of conditions, while maximizing driver convenience. When operating in 4WD Auto mode, this sophisticated system anticipates and prevents slip by redirecting torque as necessary, up to 100 percent to either the front or rear axle if needed.

For added traction capability when traversing steep grades, rough terrain or extremely poor traction surfaces, the transfer case includes a 4WD Low mode. This second speed gear multiplies engine torque 2.72 times and locks the clutch pack for maximum traction.

Electric shifting between 4WD AUTO and 4WD Low is effected with a console-mounted switch. A pushpin button is used to shift to Neutral mode.

The MP3022 transfer case provides the following benefits:

Active, on-demand four-wheel drive requires no driver input.
Instantly anticipates slip and preemptively redirects torque as needed.
Vehicle stability under all conditions because torque is constantly being transferred.
4WD Low operation mode provides an advantage over vehicles equipped with a single-speed all-wheel drive transfer case.
Electric shifting between 4WD Auto and 4WD Low provides smooth operation and improved NVH control compared to systems with mechanical linkage.
Enhanced traction and stability provided by the Traction Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) working in tandem with four-wheel-drive.
A robust design and sealing for reliability.
Maintenance-free.
A neutral mode permits flat towing.
OPERATING RANGES
Transfer case operating ranges are:

Operating positions: 2WD - 4WD Auto - N - 4WD Low.
2WD = 2 wheel drive.
4WD Auto = Electronically controlled wet clutch for torque biasing.
N = Transfer case neutral for 4-wheel flat recreational towing.
4WD Low = Low range (2.72:1) part time mode.
The 4WD Low range is for off road use only. It is not for use on hard surface roads unless the road surface is wet, slippery, or covered by ice and snow.

The low range reduction gear system is operative in 4WD Low range only. This range is for extra pulling power in off road situations. Low range reduction ratio is 2.72:1.

************************************************************

Command Trac® II with the new MP1522 two-speed, part-time four-wheel drive transfer case is the entry level four-wheel drive system. Functionally, the system performs the same way as other two-speed, part-time transfer cases. The most significant difference is electric shift, engaged with a console-mounted switch.

Command Trac® II is a part-time four-wheel drive system — 2WD High is the usual driving mode, with the front axle spinning freely and a power directed to the road rear wheels. Selecting 4WD High Lock, via the console-mounted switch, locks the front and rear driveshafts together; the two then rotate at the same and provide a 50 front / 50 rear torque split. It is for use only on slippery or loose surfaces, such as snow or dirt. Driving on dry roads can result in driveline binding, resulting in undesirable driving dynamics and potential vehicle damage. It can be engaged at speeds under 55 MPH. A Neutral mode permits towing without having to disconnect the drive shafts. A pushpin button is provided to shift the transfer case into Neutral. For severe off-road situations, 4WD Low can be engaged at speeds of 2-3 MPH. The front and rear drive shafts are locked together, and a second gear set multiplies torque by 2.72:1, providing traditional Jeep capability.

The MP1522 transfer case provides the following benefits:

Electric shift operation, with a console-mounted switch that replaces the shift lever typical of systems with mechanical linkage.
Command Trac® II with smooth operation and improved NVH control compared to systems with mechanical linkage.
Traditional 2WD, 4WD Lock, Neutral and 4WD Low operation modes, and shift-on-the-fly capability.
4WD Low operation mode provides an advantage over vehicles equipped with a single-speed all-wheel drive transfer case.
Enhanced traction and stability provided by the Traction Control and Electronic Stability Program (ESP) working in tandem with four-wheel drive, including Hill Start Assist, Hill Descent Control and Trailer Sway Control.
Maintenance-free.

OPERATING RANGES
Transfer case operating ranges are:

Operating positions: 2WD - 4WD LOCK- N - 4WD LOW.
2WD - 2 Wheel Drive.
4WD LOCK- 4 High Part Time.
N - Transfer case neutral for 4-wheel flat recreational towing .
4WD LOW- Low range (2.72:1) part time mode

Re: The Colorado BS thread

If the KK is anything like the KJ the front skid on the engine will take a beating. I can take my XJ over Black Bear without needing any skids.

I take my KJ over imogene and hit my (stock) engine skid on everything, that poor sucker has been beat.

Rock lizard fab in the springs sells some nice bumpers.

You can lift them fairly cheap, but dont expect them to be as good offroad as the XJ is.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I hate shopping for vehicles. Three of the Xterras that are listed as Pro 4X models have not been Pro 4X's. At one dealer the manager came out to talk with me about why I didn't want to buy one of the Xterras they had. I said, "You mean the one that is falsely advertised as being a Pro 4X?" He finally told me I should just put a lift on it and still save money. What's with people? At that point I walked out.

Right now I don't see any other Pro 4X models listed that are in my price range. I'll go look at those Liberty's later today. I must say, for some reason, I didn't like the way the Xterra drove. The motor didn't feel all that powerful for being 260ish. I know the Jet models have 20" wheels which won't make going offered easier but I figure I could buy anther set of wheels with AT tires and swap them out. The Liberty is certainly nicer inside.

This is precisely why I have kept the Subaru for as long as I have.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

we drove a few Pathfinders when we were shopping for Sheila's car, and while I thought they had plenty of power (that 4.0 v6 is pretty ballsy), I didn't like the feel of the cabin. I have the same feeling in my buddy's Fronty. Maybe I'm getting old and just like more elbow room, but I tend to agree with your dislike of how they felt/drove. The KK liberties feel substantially bigger inside than the KJ's. My sister in law has a 01 KJ, and while it has been nice and reliable, it feels like you're wearing it when you drive it.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

2008-2013 KK/Liberty/Cherokee

Same as Dodge nitro 07+

Very similar to 02-07 KJ liberty.

I like the KK much better than the KJ. If a KK had been produced with a CRD I would have switched to one by now. For now I keep putting up with the KJ CRD because CRD.

What kind of mileage are you getting out of your CRD? I need to ditch the JK and get something with better fuel economy to DD than my 7.3L PSD. I'd prefer to stick with an SUV over a car though if I can.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

One of the Jet Editions was gone. The other one was there but a few minutes into the test drive I realized it was a 2wd model. Shame too...that was a really nice vehicle. That dealer had the thing priced at 25 but told me they'd give me 4 grand trade for the green car. The green car! I didn't pay that much for it 6 years ago!

So I'm looking at two others now. Both 2012, silver, black leather interior. One has 59,000 miles and is priced at $18,000 while the other has 30,000 miles and is priced at $21,000. Both dealers aren't going to give much on a trade. According to Kelly the prices aren't that bad so I don't think there's much room to haggle. I hate this. The one with the higher miles does have a sun roof which would be cool but not sure it's worth the trade in milage and price. I would appreciate thoughts/advice please. Thanks.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Most people probably go smoke a cig and come back in and make a decision.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Emptied the XJ to get ready to remove the seats and doors to start cutting out the rockers ...not sure if I will cut the bottom off the stock doors and then do the typical half door upper with some rivets in it so I can add windows like on a soft top ...or just not bother working around doors and just put FIXED tube in their place possibly even cut the B-pillar out and just run down a set of double tubes in their place down to the new rocker...lol...I guess it all depends on how fast I want it done , which since I'm working outside I think I want it done quick ...either way the clearnace should be sweet regardless .

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Well I bought a 2012 Liberty. It's a really clean, 1 owner vehicle with 30,000 miles. I got it from a dealer in Golden. On the way home I turned off 285 and started dropping down into Buffalo Creek and thought I felt some pulsating in the brake pedal but you don't get moving too fast there. Then I got to the really big downhill right after that scenic overlook (the Cheesman Canyon trailhead is at the foot of that hill) and it was much worse. I could hear it and feel it. So...I called the sales guy and he seemed upset and genuine. It's back to the dealer tomorrow for them to look at it. I sure hope they make right on things because, as most of you know, I have been extremely anxious about this purchase. I'll post pics sometime tomorrow.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I went back to the dealer this morning and talked to the service technicians. They ended up installing new rotors and pads up front and that seems to have fixed the issue.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Seven people. Seven!! Are wanting to look at the old green Subaru for 2 grand.
