Re: The Colorado BS thread
The Dodges are great, but only because of the engines. The trucks themselves aren't any better than the others and the transmissions are junk.
I'll respectfully disagree and ya aren't paying much attention to the details if you think a Ford interior and cab is anywhere remotely as high of quality as a Dodge's.
Dodge had a couple years of bad transmissions and for those to go bad, you had to boost the engine's output and haul stupid-large loads to make 'em fail. And a transmission is only as good as the engine ahead of it. Far too many issues between the numerous versions of Power Strokes. If it wasn't cavitation, it was weak piston rods. If it wasn't poor block castings, it was ever-failing injection systems. Every Ford cab I've ridden in has busted plastic parts, squeaks, rattles and more busted stuff. Their glove boxes are stuffed with dealer repair receipts and recall notices. Every Ford truck owner I've ever known has more time under the hood or on a creeper than in the seat.
Chevy Duramax trucks are definitely good mechanical runners with the near perfect Allison transmissions........ but gawddammit they're ugly and the stupid-low slung frames coupled with the complex and weak independant front suspensions kept me from owning one.
I've owned Dodge full size trucks since '99. My
only complaints:
-'99 1500 w/ 360/auto: Not one complaint. 2nd best truck I ever owned.
-'02 3500 Cummins Dually quad cab: Noisy engine/cab drone. Track bar wears out quickly/prone to DW.
-'04 3500 Cummins Dually Crew cab: Uncomfortable front seats, terrible doors/cab design - noisy on highway, doors rattled on dirt roads. A/C & heater blend door failures. Odd trans shift points. Worst of my 4 trucks.
-'11 3500 Cummins Dually Crew cab: Bad cup holders, stupid duck-tail design tail gate (hard to step over and onto the bumper). Best truck by far of the 4.
Not one of these Dodge trucks ever quit running, needed towed or failed to perform when needed.
Recalls: The '04 had an auto shifter linkage recall and a seat belt receiver recall. The '11 had a recall for one of the steering tie rod ends being prone to failure.
