Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Ok, first: Waddafuggizzat? And why is someone touching it?

Second: Chris, spill the beanz..... WTF happened to your engine? :dunno:

Investigating a significant loss of torque -- couldn't even hold 60 in 4th gear on the way home from Utah... definately not up to snuff. So far, have confirmed fairly crappy compression in all cylinders (@130) with #2 at 110 and #6 at 120. Heads coming off, and hopefully it is a valve issue, and not a ring issue.:tear:

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Whoa..... what's the compression normally in a stroker? I'd love it if I had 130lbs in a stock engine......

Any blow-by from the CCV? Blue-ish smoke from the exhaust?

Sounds like what I said the first time I saw a dirty magazine.

What FrankZ said, 130 is likely tolerable, but on the low end for what should be 9.5 - 1 compression. The 110 doesn't even appear to be causing combustion when cold, which means I'm running one of those rare 5cyl stokers -- no wonder I had power loss. No signs of oil consumption, so I'm crossing my fingers that it is a valve issue

That makes me repeat a warning from experience that FrankZ made a few months ago -- NO E85 IN NON-E85 ENGINES -- its too freaking hot!:bawl:

that said, my stoker has 90k on it, and has been fantastic, so I'll just have to deal with whatever its throwing at me now...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

already 90% torn down, head will likely come off tonight, provided the PB Blaster has done its job on the exhaust flange bolts...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Huh? 90 percent torn down to me means the block is on the stand with just the crank still bolted in.. sounds like you can still do the leakdown test on it as is.

That's what 90% would mean if I was pulling the engine before pulling the head -- I don't have the luxury of a hoist, so the top end gets inspected first (with the engine in the rig) before I have to get serious. I'll see if Frank can swing by and help me with a leak-down.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

You could use the compression tester as a leakdown gauge. Not as accurate, but it will work.

that would, at this point, require re-assembly in order to get it running and get compression in the combustion chamber anyways... we'll see what I see when I get it opened up. It has shown no signs of oil consumption, so I am feeling fairly confident that whatever the issue is, it is top end, not ring-related.:dunno:

Probably was, till you went and said that. Now you'll put it back together and just when you think its all better the rings will go bad.

Ain't it the truth... I hate that Murphy bastard!
