Re: The Colorado BS thread
My pops is a farm kid, he gives no sugary coating for life and death. He encouraged us to have any pet we wanted to take care of. If we neglected to take care of our pets, there was no sugary coating for the world of shit he'd drop on our heads. They are domesticated to serve our purpose, which makes them dependant on us. If we can't take care of them, we shouldn't have them.
Before this week, I did not know a dog could have epilepsy. It cost me a couple Franklins to learn this. Since the condition can be managed, that little spaz-bucket will be here for the purposes that suit me.
Besides, my dogs have been better friends than many of the people I've met. :lecture:
Actually I agree with your sentiment on most points: I've told the kids that whatever pet had a good life and now it won't suffer any longer. They had the opportunity to say goodbye to that pet.Thats why I don't like pets. I'm sorry but "doggie epilepsy??" No offense intended but in my opinion as much as I love my dog, she is just a dog. Anything comes up that is going to make us spend stupid amounts of money keeping her alive and well and she gets put down. Maybe I'm just old fashioned that way, but I grew up where you loved your pet but they were just animals and when things got bad you took them out into the woods and shot them. You don't tell the kids you did it, just that you went hiking or hunting and they ran off.
And actually I kind of feel the same about humans, I have a pre-death will stating that if I become a vegetable to pull the plug. No need to waste money keeping me alive if I'm not actually living my life.
