Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

So I would like to get a second opinion... My dad and I are in a bit of an argument. He is already contemplating canceling our trip to Penrose because he is soooo afraid that I am going to do something too hard. Which is crazy in my opinion. I want to go and see how the jeep is going and then decide then what we are gunna run. I would like to run Liberty and then back out liberty, then run Indy and out freedom. Or maybe drop bunker hill and out liberty. He says that I think I am indestructible and that I am going to make a bad decision. He thinks that just because it can be done it doesn’t mean its a good idea. I don’t think any bad can come from running anything down there except for Patriot, but that is looking very tame nowadays. What do you guys think? is that crazy that he isn’t giving me the freedom to do the trails I want to do in my jeep when it would take some work for anything bad to happen? What would you all say?
Actually he just came in and we talked. He canceled it due to me being "a jerky teenager"

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I think your dads right. I set out to run everything with no regard for rigs to prove a point. You saw how that ended....
You two have a rig you put a lot of time and effort into. Keep building it. Take gradual step. Maybe do liberty and liberty only. Then more work. Then top of indy but no bunker hill. Just don't ruin your rig. Ya. Dropping bunker hill isn't big deal especially if ya k.ow what line works for your rig. But it is a place that beingoff by inches can put you on your side-lid. And that's a long way from home. Take the leeway he gives ya with pleasure and don't push buttons. You've done a lot more than other guys your age. No need to rush it man.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I have ran liberty twice. And my jeep is built to the furthest point its gunna go. Caged, quarter pannel armor with tube fenders all around, built axles, 4-1, good rims and tires. I was trying to take the next step and do Indy. Jeep is solid and it can handle everything but patriot just fine (I guess I kinda get the cauky attitude I am putting off that got me in toruble... but am I wrong?).

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I'm sure there's lots of factors involved with your dad not wanting to see you push yourself or the XJ. Indy is just one of those trails that can be so terribly unforgiving.... you both know that from first hand experience and we all saw you guys document your troubles in running Indy...... having to drive home from that trail in the rig you ran it in is certainly a big part of the concern. You can drive down there for the cost of gas..... but it can get a whole bunch more expensive to get the busted rig home - and then fix it - if bad things happen.

And I'm sure it doesn't help when you get "lippy" with him about the decisions he's made... that's just closing the door on yourself. ;)

Re: The Colorado BS thread

David -- you're a good kid with your shite together and a good head on your shoulders. Your Dad spent the last 17 years getting you there, and would like to keep your head on your shoulders long enough that he and your mom can retire at your expense. This is completely rational. You may not see it as thinking of yourself as indestructible, but that is pretty much what it is, and it takes a few years (dozen?) to wear off. Your dad has experiences and knowledge (i.e. "wisdom" when combined -- and you can't get it without the combination) that you simply can't understand. Take it easy, have fun without endangering yourself, and respect your old man -- he's earned it.

It's not a matter even of how built the jeep is, but how experienced the driver is. Plenty of people out there in full tube chassis big money buggies that can't wheel. I'm not saying that's you, but at the same time you don't want to get ahead of yourself either. I have, and I've got the bumps and bruises to prove it. I've finally gotten to the point where I realize I'm not fully indestructible. I might be immortal, but I can still get hurt. :D

Ever wonder why the tattooed biker dad is seen telling his kids not to do drigs or get tats, because he learned through experience that it's not always the best thing to do. Give your dad a moment to cool off, then give him a big hug, and say, "Dad, you're right. Maybe this weekend isn't the best time to push it on those trails. I'd still really like to go though so we can have our camp out. I'm cool doing what you want to do, I love you, and I'm sorry for being a lippy teenager."

Or just say, "Do you want to hug it out? Let's hug it out......bitch". :D

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Ya ya ya. Hug it out bitch has been our motto since we first saw your avatar.
I have already died before but I am still here...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

GAWD........

Laid up again with a busted up knee........

Two of my cops were sent to a physical disturbance - drunk father beating on his 18 year old pregnant daughter.

I pull up 4 minutes after the 2 cops. They forced entry as I was getting out of my car and the drunk dad is waiting for them behind the door...... fists a flying.

"POP! ZZZZZZAAAAAAPPPPPPP"...... dad gets tasered. I'm running from my car to the front door in absolute pitch black - no street lights, the house is totally dark except for the light coming from the open door. I'm running flat out up the concrete path to the door.......

TRIP, BLAM, SPLAT. Down I go as both of my feet meet the 8" tall, single concrete step up that I couldn't see in the dark. I damn near didn't get my hands out in front of me to catch my fall.... but it didn't help much...... I have just become a one-man law enforcement yard sale.

I had just drawn my flashlight from my belt and intended to light up my path...... and then I go down hard.

I smashed my thumb between the concrete and the flashlight, it's bleeding from the ripped nail bed.......

Both palms have gnarly road rash and my right hand has a small rock imbeded in it..... bleeding.

I came down hardest on my right knee....... the one I had blown out in '06 and had to have the ACL replaced and meniscus tear fixed........ It's now got a 2" round bleeding abraision and swelling faster than I can believe.......and there's a very angry midget with a big hammer pounding away at the back of my knee cap.

Sonuva......

One hour in the ER after it happened, and another 2 hrs 45 min at the Work Comp approved clinic and it looks like I'm off work through next week. Gotta get an "M.R.A." to see if the patela is cracked, or torn from the ligaments, or if the scar tissue from my ACL repair may have come loose........

And during all that time in the ER I'm having to deal with my smart-ass team of cops constantly popping into my exam room, laughing at my busted ass, and trying to snap a cell pic of me in that damn hospital gown........Fawkers...... :D

That sucks! Sorry to hear that. Let me know if you need a hand with anything while you are down.

On the bright side, long weekend?

Blah, blah, blah....... I'm too old to be a flat footed beat cop.... Blah, blah, blah....

You should watch more T.J. Hooker. That guy was always chasing bad guys and never tripped on a curb. :)

Same weight class too I believe. :D

Troy, I'm sorry but that's actually a funny story. It sucks you got truly hurt though. Hopefully the knee is just bruised and you're not in for more surgery.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Hey Jon............ :moon: <------ kiss it.

Yeah, the purpose of the story is trying to make light of it...... hell, a 15 year old kid was holding the screen door open as I was running toward the house and saw the whole thing.

He tried to stifle his laughter but as I came to the door, he just busted out for a second and then asked if I was alright. I wanted to bust him in the chops...... but really couldn't blame him. Musta looked retarded-phunnay.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

did your bastard colleagues at least bring you a donut? and ROR @ TJ Hooker... classic. :D

In all seriousness, Troy, I hope this doesn't get you banished back to the dungeon like your last run in with your German Sheppard did -- although it might be safer in there.

How long have you been back on the beat now? Yeah, I bet dungeon duty is the last thing you want to do.

I'm surprised that by now you haven't gone for a detective or even trainer position. You've with the same dept for quite a while now haven't you?

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Did I hit a little too close to home? The resemblance is uncanny.

I hope you're back on the streets soon.
