Colorado B/S Thread

Re: The Colorado BS thread

This is the norm for pretty much the rest of the world guys. Diesels and small. Fuel pricing overseas is just nuts.

Here is a link to a map showing fuel costs as expressed and US cents/Litre.

One look will show you why smaller is better for most places. We are spoiled here. Not as spoiled as some of the OPEC residents are, but spoiled nonetheless. Most Countries really whack the Citizens from a tax basis.

Have to pay for the "free" medical somehow...

Imagine, over $2/LITRE for gas.

TANSTAAFL gents. There aint no such thing as a freee lunch.

And to think I once thought $0.45/gallon was expensive gas.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Ok, who the heck would put an Atlas twin-stick in front of a Dana 35 with 4:56 and Chromo shafts? Talk about a polished turd..
someone making a marketing video for currie?

2012 Passat TDI police car.

Belle Meade (TN) PD was looking for a more fuel efficient option with lower overall cost to buy and maintain. They currently have a fleet of Chargers, but their small town has very little need for powerful pursuit vehicles as they only have 65 miles of paved road and the majority of their city is upscale residential.

I found this interesting:

"....during testing on the nearby historic Natchez Trace Parkway, Eads says they drove a slick-top version of the Passat on a 248-mile trip, achieving an astounding 54.486 mpg. A follow-up test with another Passat using a Whelen Justice 44-inch LED light bar yielded a still-amazing 50 mpg. Clearly, the fuel economy advantages of using the diesel platform are evident."

Friggin lightbar kills 4 mpg...... who'da guessed? :dunno:

The article said they have the car's interior designed to accomodate 2 Officers using nearly all equipment transferred from the Chargers, having only to fabricate radio brackets and use a mix of install parts/brackets that were intended for the Crown Vics and Caprices to install their Charger cages. All I gotta say is that there must not be a donut shop in Belle Meade........ you'd never get my big ass in that little car..........
Not surprised at all about losing 4mpg, when you get up to the 50mpg range, increasing mileage is a battle with ever decreasing returns, and anything will kill the improvements you've made. 4mpg is only like 7% decrease. It just seems huge because we're used to jeeps with 20mpg average stock, where 4mpg is a 20% decrease

My uncle Leslie over in the UK was saying he's paying about 2lbs per liter of diesel. A British pound is about 1.45$ US and almost 3 liters in a gallon. Screw that. Apparently while we were all in El Paso London was on a fuel strike too. He was like, Good thing I filled up before I left"

I've been saying the US needs to go diesel for a long time. 1.) for obvious reasons and 2.) For Job security. Cummins does not have a small diesel for cars but i bet we'd have one in development if the market was bigger!

Didn't cummins just develop one with Nissan for use in the Frontier?

If I could go back in time I would go to just before Al Gore started his little movement and burned all if his Hybrid car pamphlets. Then I would have brainwashed him to advocate small displacement diesels.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Al couldn't make a fortune in the manipulated-fascist-carbon-credit market off small displacement diesels... your rational attempts would fail, as his "movement" has very little to do with actual environmental preservation.

FROM WHAT I HEAR it is the Titan and its a different engine from us. Can't confirm or deny anything because I have no idea! :D

Oh I'm fully aware that it was money that fueled his go hybrid movement. Same thing with all the retarded A-listers that bought them to show how green they were even though they rode around in H2 limousines most of the time.

I'd heard about a diesel Titan like 2 yrs back, but I thought I recently read in one if the diesel mags about a frontier diesel for the US too.

I can't wait to get my wife my new tow rig. The V6 TDI Touareg has a 7500 lbs tow rating and an 8spd automatic. Seems like it'll fit the bill. I remember reading in Peterson how much they lived they're V6 diesel WK and how it did great towing a jeep. If Jeep would offer the new Grand with a diesel then I'd go that route, but otherwise I'm getting the VW.

they were getting like 28 MPG average in the Titan with the 2.8 engine. I think they want to go with a bit bigger of an engine because it is a 6k pound truck.

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Modern Diesels don't rattle as bad as the older ones did. What gets me is that they charge as much or more for diesel as they do for gas. It takes way less refining to get diesel out of the cracking tower.

Back in the mid/late 60's (yes, I'm old, get over it) when I was working a Phillips 66 station in Moss Beach California, we sold 102 octane "Ethyl" for $0.45/gallon. Diesel, at the time was going for $0.25/gallon. And, you had to go to a Truck Stop to get it.

102 pump gas... When a car would come in for a tune-up (full service, anyone here remember it?) we would pump out the tank and fill it with the 102. Then we would advance the spark to take advantage of it. Folks always liked the way the car ran. Right up to when they refilled the tank. If they went with "Regular" the cars would detonate. As in hear it from the side of the road detonate. Of course, complaints would ensue. We would ask, with our best innocent face on, "what fuel". They say regular, we say, there you go, It was tuned for the higher octane and as you really liked how it ran, you need to run the 102. Or, we can detune it to run on the "cheap gas". Usually, we would prevail.

And why push the 102? Significantly higher profit margin on the fuel...

Oh, btw, the fuel pumped out was distributed to the employees as a perk. For 2 years, I rarely paid to fuel my '52 Hudson Hornet. Good thing too as it could cost me as much as $13.00 to fill it from empty. It ran on regular being a 308cuin, 7.0:1 flat head 6. With two two barrel carbs, thank you very much. It had the factory "Twin-H Power" package plus a Clifford Performane head on it. And a set of headers. Made a good 185hp... In racing trim, the engine could make 200+ with the right cam and an over bore.

Stock hp for the single carb version? 145... Out of 308cuin... Not exactly a head snapper...

Re: The Colorado BS thread

Steamer - Hats off to you. You can recall more details from the 60's than I learned in school (why thank you good old public school!:dunce:).

Re: The Colorado BS thread

I remember in high school that we had a Gasamat station where I lived. For you younguns, you bought tokens, then you could use the pumps any time you wanted with the tokens. Back then, there were no card readers, all credit card transactions used the machine with the paper receipts.

I remember that gas hit $.249 once and that meant I could get 4 gallons for a buck. That was around 1968 or 1969. A job at McDonalds paid $.90 an hour.

I think you might have mentioned this in every single post you've made in the last 6 months :spin1:

As Ron Paul has said... he can get us 10 cent per gallon gas prices, if elected.

How?

... a silver dime has about enough silver in it to buy a gallon of gas these days... :anon:

Re: The Colorado BS thread
