cobalt drill bits

What do you have, what do you like? I used to buy Blu Mol at Home Depot (conveniently located around the corner). Unfortunately they stopped carrying them (they got how some other brand). So a quick search on the web got me to the Stanly site and their DIRT CHEAP (or relatively cheap) cobalt bits. Anyways, I don't want to skimp on tools (I ussually don't) but unless someone points me in the direction of some better drill bits or has something really bad to say about Stanley that's the route I'll go and just order a whole set (or rather one of each).

So what do you have, what do you like, what do you hate? (in relation to cobalt drill bits that is)

I'm not really a drill bit connoiseur. I do know that when I had to drill my output shaft for the SYE, I used a Stanley Cobalt. Just yesterday I had to drill a hole in my brake caliper and rotor on my dirt bike and also used a Stanley Cobalt. All three cut like buttah. That's all I can tell ya Kejtar. Stanley drill bits get my rock star seal of approval.

The most important thing to making bits last is using proper speed/feed and cutting oil to keep the bits cool. I learned my lesson by buying cheap bits from a discount tool place such as harbor freight, don't waste your money on something like that. I now have a craftsman cobalt set and been pleased with them.

I don't like the stepped tip (Bullet) or what ever it's called. If the bit is over 1/2" dia, I will look for a good name; that is unless they are really cheap. The biggest problem I've found with the cheap bits is that the factory grinding on the tip is a joke. After a minute or less on the grinder and they are good to go. If you don't let them get too hot, keep them sharp and chuck them up properly in a good chuck, most any of them will work.

buy a good set keep them cool while drilling and keep them sharp and they will last you a long time.

Ya know...all that crap I said earlier was bogus. Those bits weren't Stanley. They were DeWalt. Probably the same bit though.

I bought a new set of Dewalts yesterday so I could install my rock rails today. I was really impressed with them but can't speak for long term success yet!

Geez Remi, it's about time you bought some new drill bits! You always take like three different bits to drill one hole. :wierd: I almost bought you some for Xmas.

It's cause all my other good bits are MIA :( or mixed up with the el cheapos. Those new ones though will get their own bin :D
