2001 w/180K and overheated "blown" engine. New tranny 12K ago, and tires have about 80%. With that many miles I'm not so sure the 0331 is the culprit, but we'll see. It's been sitting since Feb, so if water/coolant has been rotting in the cylinder. . .
Got it for $400, but probably overpaid by $100(she had 2 other offers). Again the 96 stroker comes through as the tow vehicle.

So I checked the oil and it looked fine(not watery/milky). Radiator was down a gallon of coolant, so I topped it off--didn't see any oil in there. I took out the dead battery and then ran jumper cables to the wires and. . .
She started up. Has a lope below 1.5K(the 95 I just sold had the same problem, so it too needs a HG and a valve job), but revs fine all the way to redline. I'll take the head off and inspect. I can either pay $250 for a shave and valve job(+20 for new seals), $325 for a rebuilt head(probably go this route, just in case there is a crack somewhere), or $400 for a new head that has a thicker casting w/ reconditioned valves(if I was keeping it I'd go this route). It has 171,800 on the odo. It is interesting to note that there are only 2 o2s on this one--one for each bank on the header and none on the cat like my 96. At least it doesn't have a hole in a piston like CL #1 did. So I know the fuel pump, starter, pcm, and block are good.

Either way that's a smoking deal. Nice find!

hells yes! great find I love the color! I would opt with the third option and get a new head to be on the safe side with the given miles and history - plus u are still under a grand for a running 97+ xj - not bad!!

I will still have to invest $ in a bumper and a header panel, but still think I can get 2x out what I put into it.
