Chevy Uplander

Read my post. I had one. It was a piece of sh#$! I also have friends that have them and they are also pieces of SH#$! They have the same problem I did. So much money in it that they can't get out of it.

The cost of ownership was rediculous. Consumer reports can go to hell! They apparently never drove one for long. If you like being screwed by the dealership everytime you do anything by-all-means buy one! That is my experience. I am sure others have good ones. I will never buy another one and would never recommend one.
Then you must be one of a very small minority. Also of course they are expencive to fix...all Jap cars are. And any stealership is going to rip you off. Thats why you don't deal with dealerships.

I come from a family of car mechanics and see on a daily basis what breaks and what don't.

I hate to tell you but you are just plain wrong. Toyota (and most other Jap made vehicles) have it hands down over anything you can buy from the good old USA.

Don't buy a domestic minivan. The imports win easily in quality, endurance, resale value, etc...

You're right about about most of that, but what you fail to take into account is the original price. If I were the prospective buyer, I would look at a used 2005 Uplander (if that's what you decide you want) from rental service. You should be able to find one with around 10k miles for no more than $17,000. I'm paying about $15,500 for them at the auctions. You will pay $10,000 more for an Odyssey (which is simply the best minivan out there) to get comperable equipment (the rental rigs have DVD players, etc.) as a Chevy.
