The higher idle means the alternator, water pump, and clutch fan are all turning faster. More cooling, more power available, for periods of extended idling.
The extended idle switch is how I first noticed I had the SSP on my jeep. Bumps the RPM's up to 1000. Would have added it anyways I think if I bought a jeep without one, you can find them on the internet for $10-15 new.

Maybe the switch is $15 (more like $25 now) If you have factory fog lights and want the 4th hole for the Extended Idle switch you are probably out of luck.
Hint: turn your A/C fan to the 3 or 4 position and the IAC bumps your idle to 1000.
