I am not sure where everyone is located mainly but Coon Creek Off Road Park in northwest TN I think would be a good place it has trails and challenges of all levels and most stock 4x4 can get around the fire trails to watch. It is around 500 acres so should be big enough for the event. Just a idea I had but then again i am good with whatever and as long as fund allow will be wherever it is, unfortunately it is not all that long after winterfest in badlands so funds will be close.
One of the main issues (atleast it seems like it) is the availability for everyone to get together in a centralized location... That's why I said Uwharrie.. You can rent the group campground... or badin lake campground and everyones together... within a mile of the trails, etc.
I vote for Uwharrie, not only b/c it'd be my first time wheeling the XJ, but also b/c it's closest to me (in Charlotte) than anywhere else on the list.
How do you figure that? It's just as central as Harlan and Calle-how-ever-you-spell-it... and for that matter it's more central than that joint in AL...
How about throw it up there and see how many votes it gets... it all goes back to wanting to start a carolina's chapter... If 75% of the members are in NC/SC/VA it's central... !!!1
I'm fine w/ Harlan also, believe me... But what are small/stock rigs going to do there? circle the parking lots? Based on the turn out at the last Crawl... the majority of people are on 33" and down tires... Open at one end... and have some armor... For those people Uwharrie would be an awesome time.. for Others wanting more... we're 30 mins from DPG..
EDIT: one major draw back I see w/ Uwharrie is July heat in Central NC... Harlan's in the Mtns so it would probably be cooler..
I'd be down with going to DPG too. Another place that comes to mind(but I have never been there) is Gulches in SC.
Most of the people who I have noticed in the SE area are from NC or SC.
I don't think it matters that URE is not geographically centered enough. We're limited to WHERE the good wheelin spots are. And we're also limited to where the wheelin spots that are best for a variety of rig types are located. Unless somebody figures out how to move URE somewhere in the area where TN/NC/GA come together, we don't have a location that's good for everybody both geographically AND in difficulty.
How about URE is added to the poll and ONLY THE PEOPLE WHO WILL BE ATTENDING VOTE. That way, it's fair.
If the Carolina chapter is created, can I be a member? I only live 45 min from the SC border off of I-85. I do most of my wheeling in NC anyways . Because of the geographics of the SE...I don't think "geographically central" is fair. The land is just too different and most of the good riding places are within day-trip-doable drive from the western NC area. About where GA, SC, and NC come together. That's just how it is. It's tough to make a decision based off of someplace being centered to the SE when most of the good places to go are all in one region...the mountainous areas.
And if you are just looking for the most central. Beasley Knob in Blairsville, GA and Tellico in NC are the most "geographically central" to the whole entire 10 state area. I mean, we're talking an area that would take 15-20 hours to drive across either direction EXCLUDING FLORIDA...that's a big area.
It doesnt matter to me if Uwharrie's added or not.. I'll travel to Harlan, or Callalantee I dont care...... I just want everyone to know that Callalantee IS NOT geared toward smaller jeeps (31's, 32's, open, no armor, etc.)... Some of you come up to the Meet/Greet on Feb 23'rd, then voice your opinion.. I'm just stating mine.
well..I was chatting with Woody about this and he told me that having the crawl at Uwharrie would be a mistake. He's done the place in the rain in a stocker. He thiks anyone driving a distance will be very dissapointed.
