Cheapest place to buy CA legal cats?

Rockauto has some for pretty cheap. Like $140ish I think. You have to fish through all the non CA legal cats to find them though.

Might want to try calling some of your local exhaust shops. Have seen prices under 200 installed.

All the ones that say MEOW are legal from what I know. Pretty sure lions and tigers would be tough to get though.

has anyone failed the sniffer using a non-ca cat? I understand you can fail the visual if you are silly enough to not scrape the MFG date off on "rocks" but what about experience with the sniffer?

Sniffer should have zero issues.

thats what I figured. My understanding of these cheap cats is that they are manufactured to the EPA minimums for the year/vehicle they are replacing so you might have one that is not as effective as the OEM cat was from the factory, but a new one at EPA minimum is still probably as effective or more effective than an OEM cat at 150k miles which mine is and is not even close to failing.
