Or have not had them long enough to know better.

long enough?...i have had black steelies on since '96 when i got my first XJ...only ever bent one rim since then..i mean its not 25 years but I would say there pretty decent rims :) . Im not wheelin Moab, Hammers or Johnson valley but i do my fair share of beating on them. Im sure there are many stories of how crappy they are but here is a positive one. Don't get me wrong a set of beadlocks are on the list :)

WTF does that mean? Educate me if you can.

You really don't know all the issues with the ugly cheep black rims?

Even SeansXJ in his defense of them, still wants to go to bead locks.

I only had mine about 4 years, on my jeep now, I had them on both of my XJ's. I bent them up so many times, I even had to replace two of them. They would always loose the bead any time under 12psi, mud and sticks would find a way into the tire. The tire would spin on the rim and unbalance the wheel, always needed to have them rebalanced.

With all the other issues to deal with on the trail, like body damage and parts breaking, it is so nice to not have to think about your tires and rims.

Still it is kind of fun re-setting the rim:

But to be fair, that's not just the black ugly rims:

I think a good looking set of bead lock rims can make the rig.

Who me?

Both videos are me, I have done that so many times. The one on the Rubicon, back in 2004, you can see the wheel weights pop off as the bead sets. Also if you don't know NEVER put wheel weights on the outside of your rim, rocks will rip them off and could do damage to your rim and tire. Always ask for the inside sticker weights.

I have no arguments with any of your points. After a year of wheeling, my cheap steel rims show plenty of rock rash and a few bends. Beadlocks would be an improvement, but that just seems out of character with 33" tires and my less-than-aggressive old man-like driving style. I figure I will just continue inspecting my parts (rims, suspension, manstuff) before and after each wheeling trip and replace the damaged parts as needed. Hence, the benefits of cheap rims and a girly driving style.

^^^ By the way....are we allowed to vote for our own rig, cuz I need votes BAD!

I got mud in my old d windows once,

I drove from deer valley to San Mateo with 12 psi in my front right tire. HAHA

Love my moabs!
