Changing thrust bearing with crank in motor? Is it possible?

I have heard it is possible but looking for confirmation and any guidance available on the subject. Is this impossible? Difficult? Not too bad?

If you have a lift to give clearance pulling the oil pan, it is a cakewalk.

No lift, but I can certainly drop the front axle some other way.

Will give it a shot over the weekend.
