CCV/Vacuum Leak Problem

I have a 2000 jeep cherokee.

So I went to replace the pcv/ccv valves on it. I realized when I was doing that the back hose was broke in half (no telling how long it was like that). So I ordered a new one to replace the broke one. I installed the new hose last night and connected it from the ccv valve to the intake. It would not start. I pulled the hose back out of the intake, to simulate how it had been running. It started right up. I would have thought it would run better fixing that vacuum leak. Any ideas?

Thanks in advance!

with it running what happens when you connect the hose? what does it idle at RPM wise connected vs not?
when was the last time you cleaned the throttle body?

When its running and I connect the hose it stalls and dies. I will check the idle RPMs when I get back home from work.

It's probably been 5-6 years since I cleaned the throttle body.

Thanks!

If your IAC is stuck shut, you need that vacuum leak to get enough air to start. I'd look at the IAC valve, wiring, etc

Agree, something that is supposed to be supporting the engine with air is not working/providing the needed air. Over time, your engine MAY have become dependent on that vacuum leak to get needed air. Now you've cut off that air supply, and its got nothing. Id also check the valve body or something related to it.
