I searched for an answer but turned up nothing.
What was Jeep thinking of when they made the catalytic converter the lowest point under the middle of the XJ?
Building a skid plate for the XC is not a big deal but the catalytic converter is still a problem. On my 2001 Sport, it hangs over an inch lower than the XC.
Removing it is out of the question here in California; is there a flatter converter available?
Replacing a ripped off converter would cost a few dollars so I have to protect it....what do I do?? I do not want to enclose the entire area because of the noise and heat build up.
My Jeep is not a rockcrawer, it is my DD and it gets used for wandering about in the deserts. I'm more into using, not abusing it.
It does not need a super HD skid, just something to give it some protection. Any ideas?

My 98XJ original cat is flat and kinda oval, not like the newer ones that are cylindrical.
