Torque Converter will not seat no matter what I do.

I am working on swapping a 98 4.0 engine into my 1990 XJ, have gotten everything ready to go then when I went to put my torque converter in it just would not seat no matter how much I spun it and wiggled. it is the original 1990 torque converter and aw4. I pulled my transmission today and tried dropping it in with the transmission vertical, still will not seat at all after hours of messing with it, the splines on the inside of the torque converter feel fine and the ones on the transmission are good, any ideas as to what might be causing this problem?

Update: Problem solved, the transmission seal was so tight it was blocking the torque converter from dropping through, coerced it with a mallet.
