Tired of screwing around with that BBD, anybody done the conversion to a weber 2bbl ??

Not on a Jeep. Did a Solex to Weber on a VW bus some years back. The carb worked great, but the manifold that came in the kit was a mess. We tried everything in the book to make that bus run decent until I found a guy that had done several before and told me the manifold flanges were never flat from the manufacturer. Got those machined and it ran like a champ. Nice thing about the Weber was the interchangeable jets, so you could really tune it to meet your needs and emissions requirements. Don't know if they still come that way.

Ordered the kit

Quick 3 bills but I have had the BBD apart 2 times today and it either runs to rich, too lean or it won't idle right, arrrrrrgh wheres that sledge hammer....
Nice part is the installation sure cleans up the vacumn system quite a bit :D
The other part I like is that the 32mm is a primary and the 36 is a seconday, kinda like half a 4bbl, runs on the 32 and opens the 36 as demand increases instead of like the BBB where they both dump on fuel at the same time. Collins brothers jeep have some nice stuff and good prices too.

SV1CEC has a conversion carb on his '84 XJ. I think his is a Holley, but find him on the OEM or Mod forum and pop off an e-mail (or PM).

I already ordered it, found a page that a fellow jeeper did with pictures and step by step install. It took a godawful long time to load and I'll strangle anyone who closes netscape :D
Hope it will be here by tues so I can get him back up and running.

Rich, my neighbor is having gobs of problems with his BBD; can you post the link to that page?

Thanks,

We did this one with good results for about a week or two, then the floats developed leaks and sunk, flooding the entire carb to overflowing with gas.

We also replaced the EGR valve on mon or tues nite with no noticeable change other than that the EGR that was on there had holes in the diaphragm.so we knew that didn't work.
Hopefully this webber will solve the problem. Tell him to hold off on the weber till we get ours in and see how iit works.
Hopefully it will, I had to hold off ordering the gauge cluster for my XJ due to the little 'gotchas' on that YJ.
$65 for EGR, $300 for K551, $24 for BBD rebuild kit, etc...
I was looking at wranglers for sale in the StPete/tampa area last nite in the classifieds, daughter wants one and soon. We're going down there next month to help my grandmother who is getting out of the hospital after a broken hip and arm. We may fly down, buy a rust free wrangler and drive back up.
