I sleep in the back of mine and i'm 5'9" its a little cramped but its comfortable with an air mattress
i used to jeep sleep, BUT i hate unloading my stuff from the hatch, finding a place to put it, then like everyone else said being cramped up to sleep in it, ALSO you gotta look at most of the time every window in ur jeep will collect moisture. keep in mind you WILL have to cuddle lol theres not alot of room in the xj for 2 people side by side, its like sleeping on a twin bed. my tent takes less than 10 minutes to put up, i can keep all my valubles locked in the jeep, for me i gotta keep the ice chest locked in the jeep cuz bears will smell the food... so overall its easier to tent sleep, =) i found a coleman 10x10 tent yesterday at big 5 for 69 dollars regularly 109, with a full rain fly... its pretty decent deal to say the least
You may want to rethink that.
Bears can easily tear doors off. That is why it is illegal to store food in cars in Yosemite.

So how about taking some of the wire that is used in electic -with battery powered remote-cattle/horse fences and just running it around your vehicle and wait...........................BAM!!!You may want to rethink that.

well while the bear is tearing off my door to my jeep i'll be thinking of the brighter side lol... i dont have to tear em off to make half doors now, or... its easier to load my gun and take a head shot at the bear and hopefully kill it =/... i figure if i kill that bear it will prevent someone else from getting their car destroyed or someone getting hurt right?
Here it is: http://www.naxja.org/forum/showthread.php?t=985841&highlight=sleeping this guy thought it through.
Oh, and 6'3" guy... The guy who posted this is not 6'3"... :twak:
Ro-(the-god-damn-hatter)-bert.
I've had a similar thing bouncing around in my head lately. Was thinking about supporting the floor from the hitch. Not exactly sure how, but haven't tried very hard to figure it out yet.![]()
I'm thinking of building enclosure for the back. Have a floor that flips out and walls that snap from the floor to the hatch.

I'm 6'4 and have slept pretty well in my 89.
The keys to it are:
Remove the rear seat cusion and fold the back flat.
Push the front seat all the way up and fold it foward(not possible if you have a four door, the four door seats don't fold foward like the two door front seats)Put your head at the hatch end and let your feet rest on the back of the folded front seat.
I have foam work out mat that I got at wally world and cut to fit the cargo area.Really helps insulate and pad the steel floor.
I'll throw pics up soon.....
