It's a little hard to tell by the pics, but it appears to be a single axle, and the axle looks like it was placed too far back.

I would not use it to tow a XJ. I have yet to see a single axle car hauler.

the last owner take the 2nd axle off it has the brackets for the 2nd axle that is why it looks os far back
