Following an Ebay acution for a sports sedan in Trenton, NJ....

Anybody here ever deal with a car hauler co.?

suggestions?

good/bad experiences?

expensive?

cheaper to fly in and drive back?

from Chicago 60641

:dunno:

Set a couple up for my boss. Cheaper to fly Cattle Car Airlines, and drive it back. One of the cars was damaged by the carrier, took my boss almost a year to get them to pay up the damages.

looked into it but never had to do it. they range from 1000 to 2500 depending on how far, when, what type of vehicle, etc. its probably a better deal to fly out and drive it back. that way you can visually inspect it before you hand over cash....and if it end up being a lemon, at least youre only out your travel expenses.

shoot a PM to Dr.Moab - he does that professionaly and probably has some good insite...
Used to...Don't anymore. Gil. Just one thing to remember DO NOT deal with a broker. Deal with the car hauling company direct. I dont know the companies in your area but you should be able to search some out on the net....Just DO NOT deal with any brokers. I would guess that distance would cost you about 500 or less but I could be wrong. I don't know the way the East coast companies work.

Look into Ideal Express Auto Shippers. Can PM you the number and contact if you want. I used them recently for a NJ to CA ship. Should be less than a grand for NJ to Chicago, whoever you use.

What did you buy?
Something fun?

Looking for a gift for the wife...

an early to mid 90's Saab 900 Turbo or 9000 Turbo in a 5 speed...

We used to have a pair of matching 900 turbo's...

I killed one and she traded the other one in for a Jetta...

She HATES the Jetta!

The Kraut must go!

Those Saab's are a dime a dozen. You'll save money by just finding one locally. If it were an expensive/rare car that your saving a ton of $ by getting it on ebay then shipping might be a consideration, but not for a 10 year old saab you can find in your local paper.

I'll send you a quarter and you can keep the change if you can find me a non TCS equipped, stickshift, non rusty, non abused, good compression, early 90's Saab without major mechanical issues for under 3k.

Over 90% of all turbos sold in this area are automatic trannies...

and yes...

There's some in the local papers...

overpriced in decent condition or cheap and beat to shit...

They don't salt the roads over in your neck of the woods?

and of course most people who buy turbo'd cars only buy them for the badge...

oh..

and no salvage titles please.

I actually have a few local leads... but thought I'd see if a long distance deal was even close to being worththe trouble...

I used to work as a buyer for a leasing company, when I needed a car moved I used a company called AmeriFleet (www.amerifleet.com). I used them MANY times with no problems. A great thing about using them is that they where even able to do the licensing or get temp tags for my vehicles so my clients diddn't have to...always made for a good impression. :D

I dont really recall how much it was (other people money, didnt care) but they did do a very professional service.

Let us know how things go. I've shipped motorcycles around the country, but don't have any experience with a company that does autos. I think my boss has had autos shipped. I'm researching as well, and will see what I can find out. Need to ship my MGB out to my sister in Arizona..

...making room for another Jeep :D

Gil, that's where my in-laws live. Are you up for a Smokey & the Bandit style road trip? You pay for fuel, I can provide truck & trailer.
