cantilever suspension

Has anyone seen a thread for a cantilever suspension on a Cherokee? I have seen it on a JK.
I am very interested in getting more travel in the rear vs buying longer shocks (I already have 2" fox coilovers with 12" stroke) or cutting up the interior to take longer shocks.
Pics and advice here is greatly appreciated!

It says he already has 12" coilovers.

You still have to fit the shocks somewhere. Now they are horizontal instead of vertical. With a cantilever setup you also have to fit the big cantilevers. You may have to move the gas tank to fit the suspension, and a gas tank on the inside is a lot bigger than a couple little coilovers. My coilovers go up to a bar behind the back seat, and I still have a very functional back cargo area. There is a guy building a cantilever suspension on RME. I'll find a link.

Details and exact measurements still need to be worked out, but I've had this idea in my head for a while. So far I can get ~13" out of a 7" travel shock. Though you would need crazy valving, so I am going to lower the arm ratio.

The arch in the triangle section is pretty but it will weaken the strength significantly. Like you said, the shocks will have to be significantly stiffer. Nice looking.

you mention coilovers, are you trying to ditch leaf springs? if so, the links would require
rear floor and/or fuel tank modifications... at which point this becomes a giant project just to reuse your old shocks...

I see your point on the cost, I'm 17 and have no way to afford or justify the price of those. I'm running Pro Crap ES3000s, lol. I would much rather put that money towards a long arm kit and Bilstein / Fox / King shocks. I just thought I'd post them up for cool factor. :roll:

The travel is not going to be linear at all. Thats's not necessarily bad, but your suspension is going to compress a lot more in the last 3.5" of shock stroke than the first 3.5". That may make choosing an appropriate spring rate difficult, and maybe impossible. Can you do dual-rate springs on a 7" shock? I assume in this application you're talking about a coilover setup.
 
Bypasses are definitely an option. The main idea behind my little prototype/concept was to figure how to get a longer travel shock underneath a fullbody XJ without cutting holes in the floor. After installing the Cross-enterprises shock hoop, I cam to realize there is room underneath there to be used.......granted not alot....but there is some room.

Don't mind the "pretty-ness" or cut-outs of my concept, there are just there becuase I could, LOL!!! I am more worried about geometry (connecting points) of the "rocker arm" right now than if its strong enough. If this concept ever goes to actual prototype, I'll take your concerns into consideration. Plus with the access to FEA and such that I have....I'll make sure it will be strong enough.

Anybody have any idea what rocker arm ratio is on that EVO JK rear sustion has? It look low, like 1:1.25 or 1:1.5, maybe I'll see what I can do about lowering the ratio.

Anyone actually used the EVO JK cantilever kit on a cherokee? Maybe just use longer pushrods through the floor and run the lat brace and shocks in the cab? I am looking into incorporating a cantilever suspension in my cherokee and am looking for ideas.....or magical numbers. I might just try to re-produce a slightly diferent version of theirs and see how it goes.
