Can a Cam Position Sensor be added?

Hi guys!!!

I'm new here, not to Jeeps, sorta, lol.

Anyhow, I'm finally doing a dream build of mine on an XJ, using a stand alone ECU (Haltech Nexus S3) but it needs a Cam Position Sensor.

Obviously the 2000+ have it, coil on plug, but can it be added to earlier years?

The coil on plug 2000-01 have a Cam Position Sensor in the same location as the 1999 and older distributor location. See the first picture.

The 1999 and older Cam Position Sensor ring is inside the distributor.
