Thanks

toward Marin? No

what do you consider trails? there is a book at Barnes and Nobles i saw the other day it list all northern cali 4x4 trails that are public, camping, activities, etc..

ok cool. i will look into it. thanks.

i ws thinking some kind of mountain trails. nothing hard just something fun i dont know.

i always cruise up Ice House Rd, lots of logging roads. Also look into Finning Mill Rd, its public there is camping and mild wheelin.

Pay the extra $2-$3 and get the spiral bound edition. You won't be pulling out pages or breaking the binding when thumbing through it.

The only disappointment I have with this book is It is in B&W. The Moab, UT edition is in color and that makes it easier to read the maps.

I met Charles Wells when he was at Hollister Hills, photos of my jeep never made the book, but a few friends did. He said he made the books so someone that has never been to the area/trail could read up on it and do it for the first time with no help. I know some people that ran Moab with only his books as a guide.

I just got back from mendicino national forest last week. Spent 3 days out there just tooling around in the back country camping and shooting at stuff. There was snow at higher elevations and had to winch 6 or 7 trees off the trail. It was way fun and even with the snow the ground drys fast out there. Lower elevations was perfect, little cold but great for camping. its about an hour or two north of marin. There are lots of trails that stock xjs can tackle and tons of service/fire roads that are great. Had to cross 3 or 4 decent creeks too but you can choose and pick what you want to do. If you stay on the fire roads you'll be fine but if you venture off to smaller trails you WILL scratch the crap out of your rig. It doesn't take the paint off but i've got tons dull lines in my paint. I don't mind :) if you want more info let me know, I had a blast

Yes. What part of the mendocino forest?

There are quite a few trails along Elk Mountain Road on your way from Upper Lake to Lake Pillsbury, also a huge ATV/MX network of trails. There is also an OHV trail network around the North end of Pillsbury.

North of Indian Valley Res. has quite a few roads although I have not explored much in the area.

I am in the area a lot, grew up there, and am also interested where people like to go in the area.

I go to the OHV area a lot because we all bring fun toys and hang out at night but I typically venture out in my jeep during the day while everyone goes out on dirt bikes and I just explore the back country. The whole forest is pretty cool, the ohv area has over 200 miles of back roads including dirt bike trails and all that. but outside of that its just good 'ol national forest. LOTS of trails, creek crossings and fun stuff. I like it because some of the trails take a little corrdination and thought but unless you do something stupid you're probably not going to get anymore damage then some scratches and you can take a stocker or slightly moded jeep out there and do perfectly fine. Its less stressful then constantly trying to negotiate rocks at the con but its more then where a car or 2wd truck could go. I'd say bring extra fuel or atleast top off at the liquor store in stonyford before entering the park. if a few of you guys are interested let me know, we can meet up at a coffee shop and I can show you some maps and pics and see whos interested. also no offense but i like to feel the crowd out before going into the forest with people I don't know but I'm 100 percent down to meet some new friends with jeeps and have some fun. Like i said if your jeep is stock you should be fine and if you rig is really built it might be boring but the adventure is fun. Just be prepared for lots of scratches, the manzanitas are horrible!

Ahh Pillsbury. Spent many summer weekends there when I had a CJ. April 1981 got snowed in and couldn't get out for two days.
