Calling all audio gurus remote wire issue

So we were trying to get my amp hooked up and the remote wire was only pushing 1 volt, I checked it coming directly out of the deck and its still only 1 volt, is my deck messed up, or is this about how many volts i should be getting? If other info is needed please let me know!

The remote wire is only for sending a signal for the amp to kick on, not to power it, so , yes, this is normal.

Right, i understand what its for, but we checked my friends and his remote wire is at 12 volts, his amp works fine, but mine isnt even powering and my remote wire is at 1 amp, so i was thinking that it could be the remote wire,but im not sure?

Do you have the correct wire? I would say make sure you have the solid blue wire but I've only installed amps in Fords so that could be different.

The remote wire should be 12v but I suppose the head unit could be faulty. If thats the case, I would use a switched accessory wire.

you sure you have the right wire?

amp remote is usually 3v or 5v, 1v is for the power antenna.

All of the remote turn-on leads I've ever encountered were 12V(I was installing stereos in high school before I could even drive). As stated, tap into a 12v switched ignition source(tap into the red wire that the head unit uses) and use a switch to manually activate the amp(otherwise it'll be on whenever the ignition is on even if the radio is off).

If nothing else, you could always plug the remote line into a relay and then you would get a clean 12v signal to amp.

Sounds like you have a problem with your head unit

You have a wiring issue. As in that isn't your remote line wire.

Well its has a remote sticker on the wire in the back of the deck and i believe its blue with a white stripe. Also whats so bad about having the amp be on whenever the car is? Could that do harm even though my cd player is always in, but not always turned up

blue with the white stripe is 1v. you want the solid blue. some deck's wiring are both labeled remote, some are labeled different, like amp remote and ant remote.. or remote 1v and remote 5v.. but 1v isnt enough power to switch the amp on.
