Im getting ready to cut up my top on my jeep. I have a 94 2dr xj and want to chop the top off the back from the door pillors to the rear door hatch. My question is, before I cut up my xj I want to see some pics of how you guys installed your cages. I saw Revs choped 2 dr xj and have sent him a pm, I want mine to turn out the same way so hook me up fellows. Im hoping to get away with a 6 piont cage,2 rear, 2 side and 2 forward mounting pionts with it welded to the sheet metal on the top roof right where I cut it off. Also any advise before I start would be great.

it's just a matter of time, so...

i'd recommend the search function, this has been covered before. you also might try looking at xjdb.com and searching those pictures. i'm hoping you know your way around a welder already, especially with the thin metal found on our trucks. if you have any doubts about your welding skill, practice a lot. sounds like a pretty good plan, be sure to get pictures as you do it, and welcome

Here's my album with a bunch of pics from mine, browse around and see what you can glean. I won't tell you to go search. ;)

Take your time and think about it, like you're doing. Think in terms of best rigidity, as well as protection, and it will work out fine. It's amazing how much that stock structure will move around, especially when major sections are removed. I'd recommend figuring a way to tie into the front, forward of the windshield, or you will eventually get cracks in the frame at the firewall and in the A pillars, plus eventually in the front crossmember and around the steering box.

Have fun, :)

I dropped you a PM. I'm just south of Waldorf if you wanna drop down sometime to get some ideas.

I was very happy I dove tailed mine before adding any tube.

I made a hoop the welded to the top of the rear fenders that would work on an Exo or non exo style cage. That workes really good.
