Bypass Oil Filter!!!"

Hmm...

My first though at "bypass oil filter" is, essentially, "why would I want to bypass-filter my oil, when I'm full-flow filtering now?"

I'd still like to know how they're defining "bypass" - I'm still thinking that it means "bypass the filter." While dirty oil is usually better than no oil, that's just the first blush.

Having looked at the filter, I don't see any reason why we CAN'T mount it to an XJ - it's a remote filter housing. Therefore, find a place to mount it and a way to plumb it in, and you're golden.

I'd still like to know how the thing is built (sorry, but if I'm getting full-flow filtration now, I'd like to keep it that way!) before I got it, but I can't see it being any more difficult to install than any other remote filter setup. Don't forget to adjust your oil change amounts to reflect the filter and the lines. Might be a good idea to stick in an oil cooler while you're about it.

Bypass filters typically filter at a much finer micron level than normal filters function at. Meaning if your normal filter grabs things 15 microns or larger a bypass filter usually is 2-3 microns and up.

I've been running bypass filters for 30+ years. I run a toilet paper oil filter on my stroker. Check out

Last summer I did a remote oil filter install and at the time I was going to add a bypass and perhaps an oil cooler. But finding time and room limited me to just the relocation only. I still might go with the bypass this summer as I know where to mount it now that the dust of the first install has settled. For me it would be worth it as I do run extended drain intervals on my Jeep.

It might be as simple as the Frantz, we'll see.

Ware did you end up putting the remote filters?

I have an aftermarket front bumper that has some large pockets at each corner. The remote filter is mounted on the passenger side pocket and I would mount the bypass on the driverside pocket.

You can kind of see it from underneath...

I thought I had a shot from above somewhere, but can't seem to locate it.
Like the cooling fins. Ware did you git that? onlt thing I have found for a oil filter was the filtermag. not the samething.

Seems to me my father got it through Jegs. If not there then I don't know. I put some thermal transfer paste on the inside of the fins to help create better contact between the fins and the filter. Who knows what the end result is, but it didn't cost much at all.

Because the stock filter setup has a valve to let oil around the filter. The more the filter clogs, the more the valve gets used.
A bypass set up normally works *with* the stock filter. A small amount of oil is *forced* through the bypass filter. The filter is normally more effective than the stock filter, so even though it only filters a small amount of oil the end result is much cleaner oil in the pan.
