Hey, by the way, does anybody know where I can get those black out kits for the XJ headlights? Somebody's gotta know what I'm talkin about. I can't find 'em at JC or anything. Any ideas?

If they're not illegal they should be: I almost ended up taking a vehicle that had black out kits like that as in the dark they mess with the distance perception of the vehicle that's running them.red91inWA said:

The legality of them is decided by the state you live in. In PA they are legal during the day, but if your headlights are on you can't have the covers on. Might want to check local laws before complaining about things.

What's that got to do with anything? IMHO they are idiotic and dangerous and I don't care what the local law says. I didn't care till I almost creamed a ricer cause he had those stupid things on and I didn't realize he was that close (plus he was lowered in order to scrape asphalt).

Since I don't drive in Ca anymore and mostly stay in UT,WY,NV and AZ...all of which have a speed limit of 75 and my truck is governed at 77 I don't worry anymore anyway....God its nice not to have to go 55 anymore.

I think there are a few states like that, where if you have a trailer, you have to stay in the slow lane, no matter what you're driving. On some of the interstates here in Illinois, trucks with trailers have to run 55mph while the rest of the motoring public gets to go 65 mph, figure that one out. We also seem to be the only state in the midwest that refuses to go up to 70+mph on the interstates too, Iowa's going up to 70 or 75 this summer.
I'm not a fan of blackouts on almost anything, I think they look kinda lame (unless it's on a all black 89-96 T-Bird or simularly styled car). I tend to lean toward "Clear-Outs" on almost everything I've had (don't worry, never wasted money on them) since all but my ZJ had sunken sealed beam headlights of some kind.

The point behind making trucks with trailers do 55 is that a trailer adds weight and makes the vehicle take longer to stop/slow/turn. By making them do 55 it helps to counteract some of the braking deficiency brought on by the trailer. That and I've seen way too many idiots weaving through traffic w/a trailer acting like they're every bit as maneuverable as the next guy. Its just one of those common sense/protect us from ourselves and other idiots laws. I've seen that law most places I've been to, except NY where the speed limit is usually 55-60...
