Hey, by the way, does anybody know where I can get those black out kits for the XJ headlights? Somebody's gotta know what I'm talkin about. I can't find 'em at JC or anything. Any ideas?

If they're not illegal they should be: I almost ended up taking a vehicle that had black out kits like that as in the dark they mess with the distance perception of the vehicle that's running them.red91inWA said:Are they even LEGAL ??? or is it one of those....BORDERLINE things, like Radar Detectors ?

well you can see them... but since the lights are dimmed you think they are way farther then they really are...red91inWA said:That was what I was thinking...nothing like being able to see in the dark.

And I thought OREGON was stupid. It would stand to reason that you COULD have them on if your lights wern't on. And taken off if your lights WERE on.

I hope you mean if the headlights are on you can't have them on.chameleo78 said:In PA they are legal during the day, but if your headlights are off you can't have the covers on.
What's that got to do with anything? IMHO they are idiotic and dangerous and I don't care what the local law says. I didn't care till I almost creamed a ricer cause he had those stupid things on and I didn't realize he was that close (plus he was lowered in order to scrape asphalt).Might want to check local laws before complaining about things.

Thats almost as good as saying radar detectors are LEGAL...until the cop that pulled you over detected you had one. uh..oh...there goes another $100.00 to the local court system.
DANGEROUS....I agree.

I could be wrong but now I think its illegal to have them in any commercial vehicle everywhere.Sarge said:Radar detectors aren't borderline. In most states the things are legal. A few don't allow anyone and some don't allow commercial vehicles to use them but no borderline stuff nowhere.
Sarge
I think there are a few staes where it's legal to have them but illegal to use them. I remember reading about that and trying make sense of the law and the only thing that made sense would be for it not to cause trouble for those who use it out of state....DrMoab said:I could be wrong but now I think its illegal to have them in any commercial vehicle everywhere.
I haven't looked up the law but have been told by other truckers(this doesn't mean much) that its illegal to even have them in a commercial vehicle.Kejtar said:I think there are a few staes where it's legal to have them but illegal to use them. Anyways... when I was still in HighSchool I built a radar detector trip kit which would trip the radar detectors when you press a button. Oh it was fun to observe the freeway from an overpass![]()
Oh I don't know about commercial, I was talking about us regular folks......DrMoab said:I haven't looked up the law but have been told by other truckers(this doesn't mean much) that its illegal to even have them in a commercial vehicle.
Since I don't drive in Ca anymore and mostly stay in UT,WY,NV and AZ...all of which have a speed limit of 75 and my truck is governed at 77 I don't worry anymore anyway....God its nice not to have to go 55 anymore.
(btw, in SoCal you can get a ticket for being in the wrong lane with a trailer! Don't ask how I know)
