Bushwacker flares... ?

If you get the b-whackers and decide to paint them...be darn sure you do it properly or the paint will peel off...I have a set on my XJ but I cant give any input on how they stand up to rocks n trees....I will say they take a mud coating without any problems. you gain clearance in the front because there is a fair amount of trimming needed to fit them....the rear dont gain much if any. My XJ is a 2 door, so I cant say how the rear works out on a 4 door.

In florida, you are not required to cover the tires like in some places, so my MJs got trimmed a beading installed...

The topic of bushwackers seems to be a love/hate thing. I read a lot of people saying they ripped theirs off going through tight trails and such so when I got mine I too the bolts and went to the hardware store and got nuts to thread on the back side and I have not had a problem yet. I will say though, that if I didn't have the nuts on there that I'm sure they would have come off by now, I think that bushwacker doesn't expect people to run their flares through the paces like alot of people on this forum do. So do yourself a favor when you put them on and put the nuts on, it's a PITA but worth it in the long run.

i was thinking about doing this, do they look like the bushwackers bolts that come with them?

That's almost what I did, but I went with Rivet-Nuts (Like pop rivets that put a threaded hole in your fender). Nice thing is you don't have to get to the backside. I used a #10 size with SS panhead machine screws. Looks great and haven't ripped one off yet.

I run them and I like them.

Mine are going to get cut up some more in the front. They are cut for the sliders and I've beat on the a little.

I think they look good with a 35" tire but they look a little silly with anything smaller. If you've got 35's and need to keep it legal for streeting it, I say get them. They aren't perfect but what is?

If you can afford to maintain an XJ on 35's that works well on and off the road, quit whining about the price.

Here's mine if you care

I have the rusty's flares and they flex but still break and the rivets are pulling through mine/but maybe they wernt installed right they were on it when I got it.
Sounds like you have the earlier hard plastic ones.

I have the newer flexy ones. They can be tied in a knot.

I love mine got some big scratches from rocks. But they still look great. Had one dent in one of them but I took it off and used a small propane torch and heated it just a little and the dent poped right out. I love em.

I've seen them with a jeep laying on them in a rollover and they dented but did't break. He heated them and pushed them out looks almost like new.

I can't tell a differance in clearance at all.
