SO my friend has a stock 02 chevy silverado...He bought it a few months ago and it appears to have been leaking oil from the rear diff the whole time...I kept telling him to at least check the level of the fluid but he didnt..Now yesterday he told me he was driving and sounded like a harley davidson was behind him,in every gear except nuetral..Does that sound like that thing is shot? At least he has a warantee

Yeah, sounds like it chewed the gears up... also, my bet is on the warranty not covering it due to improper maintenance. He's gonna have trouble, dealerships don't like paying for stuff like this either.

A hundred bucks at my local U-pull-it. Bring $250 in tools ($70 3ton harbor freight hydro jack, $150 cordless sawzall, breaker bars and stuff, sawzall blades) and it'll take you an hour to pull it, max. Your prices may vary, some areas like socal are much more expensive from what I've seen, while southeast US seems much cheaper - where in the US are you?

Around here I can pick up those rear axles for $85.00, plus an hour or so to pull it. I have a good buddy who owns a pull-a-part, and he even lets me take my torch in there if I want. LOL
