Brakes?

What do you guys use for brakes? It's time for rotors and pads on the LeMons race car, and while the stock brakes have done alarmingly well, I was wondering if there's some trick you guys use. Thanks in advance,

P.S. Here's the car if you have no idea what I'm talking about:

Alot of people do the jeep grand cherokee brake/spindle upgrade. I believe its a Wj you want.

ETA alot of people are also doing the Ford 8.8" rear end swap from a 99 up ford explorer as its a decent fit (1.5" narrower) and comes with 3.73 or 4.10 gears, LSD diff and large disc brakes. They are plentiful and cheap here in the states.

I think they already have an 8.8... it's 95 up explorer, btw.

Only thing with WJ brakes is to make sure they fit in your rims, and your steering angles will change...

... weren't you asking more about pads/rotors than swaps though? No idea what most people run for jeepspeed/street performance, I usually toss on raybestos pads and the cheapest decent quality rotors from rockauto.

Yeah, weighing in at only 2900 lbs, the stock brakes (with 8.8 w/disc swap) has been very effective. I'm mainly wondering if there's an off the shelf rotor and/or pad set-up that the JeepSpeed guys favor for durability. We run 800 miles per weekend, and we're using them probably harder than the desert guys do, just trying to cast the net out there to see if there's any preference.

I'm going to be running 17x8's soon, (currently 16x8, but with our new tire sponsor, we're going to need to go larger) so I'm not worried about fitting under the wheel. Also, do all 2WD XJ's have spindles instead of unit bearings like on a 4WD?

Thanks,

-Matt

I want to say 91 or 92 and earlier are spindle style 2wd while 92 or 93 and later are just like the 4wd, but with dummy stub shafts in the unit bearings. I'll check.

I know for a fact that 91 and earlier are spindle style 2wd because that's what I took off my MJ's stock front beam.

EDIT:
ABS 2wd vehicles 92 and later got the 4wd style unit bearings, i.e. all non-bendix ABS 2wd vehicles got new style.
no-ABS 2wd vehicles up to and including 93 got the spindle style knuckles.
All 94 and later vehicles got the same unit bearing style knuckles.

I have all the stock parts off a 91 2wd Comanche, no ABS, spindle style, in running working condition with plenty of meat left on the pads and rotors sitting in my storage unit. Weigh about 50lbs total I think, I can rip whatever you want off and ship it if you can find a way for me to do so. Free, it's been sitting around since I tossed the new d30 in there. Inner Cs, knuckles, spindles, rotors, pads, calipers, the whole deal.

I like my hawk pads and slotted rotors over the stock stuff. The slots on the rotors clean the dirt off pads and I rarely get noise, the work well in wet conditions too...
