brake shoe size?

is there a way to determine whether the rear shoes on my 97 are 9.5" or 10" without taking every thing apart first? 4.0 5-speed with chry.rear end.

a non confirmed way I've used is if the outside of the drum is smooth vs finned. not saying 100% of the time, but the smooth are 9", the finned are usually 10".

I'd bet that you have 9" drums, not 9.5, and probably not 10". The max safe diameter should be cast into the outer surface at the rim, and is visible when the wheel is taken off. If the measurement is 228-230mm, you've got 9" drums.

My 97 has the C8.25 axle and 9x2.5" brakes.
