Box under driver seat?

Just bought a 99 XJ Limited from CO. Noticed it has a box mounted under the driver seat, about 4" square and 1" high. My other 99 XJ Limited has only mounting studs in that area. Just wondering if anyone on here knows what it is. Thanks, haven't been on here for quite awhile.

Airbag control box, they moved it at some point to under the center console.

That's interesting, both XJ's were built 9/98, the one with the module under the seat has a serial number only 5173 lower than the other.

There was a recall issued, the Dealership re-located the box from under the seat to the location under the console due to issues with corrosion. The factory updated the build specs to locate the box under the console at the same time.

Every change has an effective date, its possible your two 9/98 were built 9/1/98 and 9/30/98, OR one had the recall work done, and the other not....
