i took the sticker off last night. it took me awhile though since it was baked on. i talked to a few people that i know that own small companies around here, and they said they would probably ask to take the sticker off too. at this point, i need the money more than a sticker. went into work today, and everything seems good with the owner since he didn't mention anything. i'm going to see how things go here for the next month or two. hopefully things gel a little better. thanks for everyone's advice. very helpful.

after i got out of the coast guard i hung out in newport for the summer.. (rich touristy town)..
and i guess some old lady told my boss that my woods bumper sticker was "ubnoxiouse" ... its funny becuase sometimes in my rearview i see people pointing trying to read then laughing.. other times i see people rolling there eyes and looks of disgust.. . il tell you that i have seen alot worse bumper stickers then my shafts a woody... people need to get over themselves...

Well... you're talking dress code while at work, which is fine what if the employer tells your kids to wear a feather headress when they're home?

Remi, I don;t think the boss cares what stickers he has on the Jeep at home, but generally what's on the Jeep at home will be there at work. He wants the sticker gone at work which means it'll be gone at home too. A better comparison would be if he tells the kids to wear a feather headress while standing outside at work.

I read most of this thread but I definately say take the sticker off. Whether it is legal or not I don't think that is an unreasonable request.

I am a plant manager and to be honest, if one of my employees drove up with a Tom Wood's sticker on their Jeep I would ask them to remove it. I have a Jeep, I have a Tom Woods shaft and I have sticker; it is sitting in my garage. I get the sticker and I know what it means but 99% of the people that would come to my plant wouldn't get it and if 1 of them was offended by it then all of the sudden I would be regretting not asking the employee to remove the sticker.

From the perspective of your boss: A owner of a company wants to keep a certain amount of dignity at the workplace. Also he wants to cover his butt to make sure other employees are not offended. He has the entire work force to be concerned with, not only you.
From your perspective: Is your job really worth a sticker? Is putting up a stink about it to your boss really worth it? Quit stirring the pot and step in line. You will go a lot further if you respect your boss. Your boss will also have a lot more respect for you if you respect him. Sure people gain a lot of respect if they stick to their principles and I fully support sticking to principles but is having a sticker on a vehicle really a principle?

On a side note there was a girl who was actually a supervisor at my previous job. Her license plate frame said: "F*** men then F***ing leave them" It obviously was unedited. Once the plant manager saw that it was her car, he pulled her in the office. He asked her to remove it because it was inappropiate especially for a supervisor. She aurgued with him for a while about it but took it off. Ulitimately she quit; not because of that incicident but because she just got more and more argumentative with the plant manager. she never got over it. Now she is working as a bagger at a grocery store.....

I guess I'm just an anachronism - I'm more offended by "political correctness" than by people who just tell me what's on their mind, and damn what I think about it. At least those people are honest. The best way to offend me is to try not to.

Throw in my always ribald and usually irreverent sense of humour, and it's a wonder I haven't been sued for anything (read: just being myself) yet. I see no reason to change - if you don't like something I do, tell ME and we'll take care of it. Bypass me in solving a problem, and I'll guarantee you you'll be leaving before I do. It's happened before, at times when I HAVE been in charge and when I have NOT. I deal with people directly, and I demand and expect no less in return.

I tell ya, who'd have thought that 33 could feel so damned old?
