booster seat ? n NY.

Hey Guys,
I will be flying up to the NY city area and am going to have to rent a car. I live in NC where the booster seat laws are 12 yrs old or 80 lbs. Just wondering if I needed to travel w/ a booster seat for my 7yr old.
