Body Work

So I have been trying to keep my jeep perfect since I got it when I was 16 (im 24 now) well I got a small rust spot under the passenger door. The body guy I go to (does FANTASTIC WORK, my jeep has been hit 8 times and the keys have never been in it at the time... i.e. its been in park) ground it down and re welded in a small piece of metal 3 years ago. Now the rust is back. Several body shops in the area have told me to just watch it b/c I basically have to get a new door (cost: 800 with paint and new door). What do you guys think?

Any product to put on it to slow the rust?

I see I can buy just the lower section of the door panel and cut and weld it on there, but I am told that without a perfect welder it may bow out the door and become a major pain. What do you guys think? (I think the lower door panel is only like 50$)

You guys are great,

The quotes I have gotten were around 600 with paint and install. Plus the rust is along the seam in the bottom of the door. The 3 shops around here told me they REALLY REALLY doubt I would be able to find a door in as good as shape as mine is currently.

^ cant hurt to look. you might get luck, ive seen some good ones here in New England and im sure you could find 1 decent door. as i said, id give it a shot, save that extra cash for later.

here in CA you can pick up a good rust free door for $20-$40 if not cheaper. that plus shipping and you would still be way below that price. you could probably even get one that matches your current factory color. just sayin. and a decent tig welder can easily weld in a new panel for you without it bowing. small welds and let it cool is the trick. if you get some distortion, heat it up, then slap a cold wet towel over it and it will shrink right back into shape.
