Blue heeps Cage Build

Finished welding everything in today.

A few little hiccups... the welding caused the bar above the windshield to suck down more than I expected. Still have about 1/4 inch of clearance. same with the main gutter bar, the welding kinda sucked it up a little. Cranked on it with some ratchet straps and it was good.

Ya, I'm guessing those 4 center bars add around 15-20 pounds. The cargo that is contained inside the b and c pillars is very important to me. I'll know when I start driving it if it feels really heavy. Worse case I cut them out.

My cage is probably 270# of steel.

I wish i would have weighed my heep before the cage. I used 110 feet of 1.5" tubing. I think that weighs 1.7lbs per foot. That puts mine around 190lbs? I guess I'll just make my wife walk to offset that weight!

You wife is not 190lbs......

:D

lol

"Oh I want crash protection and rigidity" is bullshit.

I know you just did it for additional rooftop load carrying capacity.

Ha! Now that is a low C.O.G.!!!! That's what happens when you take your wife and 2 daughters on the trail camping. This cage is to keep my roof from collapsing under the load!

This year my wife wanted to take my 3rd daughter to swamp with us... I said where the hell we going to put her?!? Going to have to build a 2nd XJ just to carry all the crap!

I'm not sure I've ever thought a rig was going to flop, that didn't, as much as on that section of the trail.
