Blower motor not working-fuse popping

I bet it's a wire somewhere in the dashboard. Pull the cable to the motor and see if it still blows?

EDIT: winterbeater, I suspect it's after the switch since the fuse stays intact till he flips the switch to any position except off.

EDIT: which switch? The only way I can see for this to happen if it's the heater mode select switch is if the YEL/BRN wire between heater mode select switch and blower switch is shorted to ground somewhere. Other than that, I would expect the dark green wire to be shorted to ground somewhere between the blower switch, blower resistor, and blower motor, though any of the switch to resistor block wires could be shorted and cause these symptoms I guess (since they'll all be powered to some degree when the blower is on in any position.)

UPDATE: well I replaced the fan switch (easy), and a relay up in the fusebox in the engine compartment. Fuse is still popping immediately. All wires look clean and solid. I'm stuck. Help? I guess I'll keep looking but it's annoying me..and its cold now...cheers- - TJ

If you pull the lower dash panel look for pinched wires directly above the pass feet area between the dash and HVAC housing. I have seen the harness to the HVAC housing get pinched between it and the dash when it was installed.

Thanks for the responses..I will pull that dash cover on pass side tomorrow. I think this is where the wires you are talking about are? Wires look good in engine compartment, by resistor (new) and behind control unit. I'll let you know how it goes.. TJ

The lower dash panel on 84-96 is one piece from the drivers to passengerside.

Yes I did unhook the motor. Fuse still pops. Took off the lower dash panel, didn't see anything that looked bad/pinched/exposed/etc. I am pretty stuck..no defrost and its been snowin..PITA. gonna tear the dash all apart this weekend I guess and just start checkin wires..TJ

If it's pinched it will be bewteen the HVAC housing and dash or firewall. Uplug the blower resistor and try it.

UPDATE: Finally! Fixed it. The YEL/BRN wire mentioned above was shorting out..thanks for pointing me that direction. Now that my whole system is rebuilt too..ha! Anyway, what a PITA, but I have heat! thx - TJ

Just in time for spring, eh? :D I hate it when that happens.

Glad you got it fixed.
