rcn.com bought out enteract.com about a year or so ago.

the switch was pretty smooth, I just had to reset a couple user settings, and carry on through life.

I was still getting some enteract mail for a couple months, but eventually had everyone i know start using rcn since "enteract" began to not work....

starting about two months ago, I started getting flooded with spam and shit funneling through the enteract.com addy......

this last week has been insane, about 25-50 a day......

i am not getting spam through rcn.

is there anyway to "turn off" an e-mail address that is supposedly non-existant?

Well........ yes and no.

You might be able to call RCN's tech support and have them put a .forward on your old enteract account to just dump all of your email in the bit bucket. I've been hearing bad things about RCN's tech support though, something about not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

Secondarily, you may be able to put a filter in your email client that will automatically send everything addressed to your old enteract.com address to the trash bin.

Exactly. What do you use to read your mail Beez? Outlook? Webmail? Just create a rule, or a filter that "moves" all emails that have "enteract.com" in the "to" address line.

Otherwise, sombody somewhere has a forward setup to re-direct your old emails to your new....... just get them to turn that off, then all the emails being sent there will all get bounced back to the sender as undeliverable.

or do i just stuff a bunch of dryer sheets in a toilet paper roll tube?

That's classic :D but for some reason, mom always caught us anyway.... :D

"Tools" pulldown > Rules Wizard > New

From there you'll have to sort of 'build' the rule. You'll want to "check messages when they arrive". Then "Sent to People or Distribution list" (then you click on the link thing, and type in the email address ".....enteract.com". Then select "Delete it". Then you turn the rule on.

This will work for now to keep it from bothering you as much, but you should call your host and just tell them to turn off the "Forward" from your old email address.

Paypal donations to: [email protected] :D
