Get the book! Get the book!

The second one - the Handbook - had a lot of good information in line with what you're looking for - and I need to get my hands on it again. Here in CA they do one thing right - the City library system can draw books from any University library in the state (and several of the City libraries share books, as well.) The catalogue for all of this is online, and you can peruse libraries throughout the state all at once.

See if you have something similar with your library, or if you can find these books at a University library somewhere handy. Growing up, I used to spend a LOT of time at the Purdue libraries, simply because they had books I couldn't find at the City library...

That's one of the things I just put in my edit :) Sorry, my time has been at a premium of late....

I just emailed the book info to myself, but shit, while I'm here on 1 campus, I think I'm going to write the info down (or just print it up - this is my "introductory" computer class....I wish I could be exempted from this remedial crap....) and take a trip by the library before I head to my job at the local University....which is located a roughly 3 minute walk from that campus' library....HUGE freaking building....

I also have the benefit of living in the county with the highest per-capita density of not only library bank branches, but of books I believe as well. (Erie County, NY)

If I can get my hands on the book, would it be illegal/against NAXJA policy to scan and post certain important pages on here? Or just so long as I don't scan & post more than a few pages?

Freaking Commie libs at both college libraries don't have the book....at least I can't find it via online catalogs.....next to try the local library system........

You'd have to check, but most technical works allow for a certain amount of reproduction without violation of copyright for purposes of research or presentation - as long as accreditation is given. My wife is the person we should really ask - she's a paralegal and does corporate litigation and copyright law...

Generally, it's like any other research paper - as long as you cite the information, you should be alright. Since you're not trying to post the whole book - probably just a few charts and some tips - it shouldn't be a problem as long as you have the Source: line in there somewhere.

For the record, a 3rd edition is coming out. I got out of class and am the first school's library. A librarian told me that since this resource I'm using shows on 1 library has a copy, it must be the Library of Congress - ie, it's been assigned an LC number, but has not yet been published and distributed.

That's straight out of the search utility.

I will attempt to find more info - the art of pen(cil) & paper has been lost in this Internet age and I'm glad I'm starting to re-discover it! (well, kinda)

I put in an inter-library request form, so hopefully, the lady who handles that here will be able to find a copy and I can sign it out.

Apparently, since it's a "reference" book, the Nazis at the local library won't let me sign it out. At least they have a copy, though - maybe I'll find my way down there this weekend, probably not sooner.

Thanks for reminding me!
