Biggest Waste of Money?

Like so many others said in this year old thread... Bushwackers... CRAP they're just going to get knocked off anyway.
 
Any lift that has the words "budget" in desc, Any lift with AAL in desc,Any lift smaller than 4",any short arm lift, replacing anything in a jeep with chrylser parts,rear sway bar link extensions,(my rear SB is now rusting behind shed),and finally washing a XJ-I think they look better nastified!!

Same here... only thing I regret so far.
 
Biggest waste of money on my MJ......Rustys 4.5" MJ lift. Springs sagged about two weeks after I put em on, the track bar snapped twice, and the LCA bushings fell apart in a year.
 
I might have already replied in here somewhere but, so far:
1.) Buying from a dealership
2.) JCR sliders - I may buy another set someday but I didn't wheel it much for a while and didn't need them, so I sold them. Be realistic about what you are doign with your rig.
3.) Cheap rotors for my ZJ swap. The semi-metallic pads are already tearing the hell out of them, 6K later.
4.) Flowmaster muffler. Irritating sound, no performance gain.
 
I can't believe how many people hate on the Bush Wackers. I would love to see some pics of all this carnage and destroyed Bushwackers everyone is talking about. I have trimmed mine to work with what I have, 7.5" lift and 35's and I wheel my Jeep hard. And mine are still intact. And my favorite part, they keep the po po's off my back, and they dont look like lawn curbing wrapped around my fender well. Lets see your alternatives to Bushwackers, and some pics of all this carnage.

And my biggest waste of money.... probably a roof rack, but I already removed and sold it, so i'm good to go.
 
i just spent 100 bucks to make my jeep sound less badass.

about a week ago my muffler removed itself from the rest of my exhaust system and at first i thought it was too loud, but about 37 seconds later i realized it sounded tough as hell. our 4.0s with no muffler have a real nice gurgle and sound pretty good (or at least i thought it sounded good). i would have kept it like this if i didnt have to leave for work at 430am every day. i started feelin kinda bad for my neighbors so i threw on the flowmaster 40 i had sittin in my garage and now im sad.

who woulda thought a flowmaster 40 would make anything sound more reserved?
 
Lights. I asked for some IPF lights last X-mas and got em. Loved the way they look, but I just don't use them. If I did any night wheeling, it'd be a different story, but I usually have to drive 3+ hours to wheel anywhere, so they just sit on the bumper and look cool. Gonna sell them to make money for a winch.

If you have to drive 3 hours to use your lights won't you have to drive 3 hours to use your winch?? it would look cool though....
 
But if he's driving 3 hrs to wheel, he may not be camping and therefore would likely be headed back before or right around dark, thusly not needing the lights for night wheeling. A winch can be used day or night.

Haha, well in the year or so I've been wheeling, I've never done it at night. However, I have been winched and pulled out of obstacles a few times.

Take this weekend for instance. I was wheeling with 3 TJ Rubicons (all had dual lockers and winches, 2 on 35's, one on 33's) and 2 YJ's (both had dual lockers, 36"+ tires, winches). I've got a rear locker and 32's in an XJ. I'm following them through rock gardens that they are having trouble getting through and needing to be winched/pulled in certain spots. The JK Rubicon with dual lockers and 35's turned around because the trails were too hard. I'm tired of putting the recovery burden on other people, getting a winch.

Oh, and I didn't turn the lights on once lol. Anyone want to buy them?


Oh, and 256offroad is right also. After doing all this wheeling, I was the only one going through the hard stuff that also drove home (5 hour trip).
 
focusing too much on flex
Rustys enevenly sagging coils
Custom orbit eye springs that gave way more lift than I asked for 8.75" instead of 5.5"
Worse yet lifting the front to match xj got scary to drive
Buying early RK 3 link radius arms the style that the upper am went to a new bracket welded to the coil bucket. That kit needed a LOT of reinforcement to be moderatly safe
Buying anything with Hiems I hate the squeaky, clunkey, fast wearing bastards.

My biggest waste was trying to do a budget lift. It's created more problems than it's worth. I'm getting ready to bite the bullet on "new" shocks against my better judgment. I'm actually looking at either a tow rig, or a 2001 XJ as a DD. Not sure yet.
