I've been spending so much time on the Jeep that I havent had time to really figure out where the heck Flatnasty or the campground is. Can anyone give me an address/name of the campground so I can figure this out? Also we dont need to call ahead for camp sites do we?

Anyone heading down from the Chicago area? Dirt and I will be heading over from Detroit to Chi and then heading south. We'll probably be in the Chi area sometime between 12-1.

Campsites and cabins are already reserved for those who've PMed me about them.
Anyone else needs to PM me for cabins (a couple left) or call to reserve campsites.

You'll be going right past me.
I'm in Crown Point, Indiana, just off I-65, a few miles south of 94.
Be happy to hook up with you for the drive down.

I'd be interested in a convoy when you guys hit STL.

When I visited FN this past weekend, I went went down and came back by two different routes.

I recommend taking HWY 68 from I-44 in St James south to Salem. When you cross Rte 72/32 in Salem the road becomes Rte 19. Continue south on this and then make a right on Rte K, and then another right onto Rte ZZ. Flat Nasty is on the right.

I'm waiting for a call back from Barton's for directions to their location.

Salem is a decent sized town with restaurants, lodging, auto parts, a 24-hour Walmart, etc.

For a scenic return trip on a twisty road through the Ozarks, one can take HWY 19 from Salem back to I-44 at Cuba via Steelville.

I'll let you know as soon as I figure out my schedule.

Mark, about how much time from St. Louis to FlatNasty?

2.5-3 hours.

I should be ready to go around dinner time if you wanna plan on meeting for grub.

We have 2 options since there is construction on I-44 near HWY 109 in Eureka and you'll probably be hitting that right at rush hour, in time for a 3-4 mile backup. I can either provide directions around it and meet you somewhere off I-44, or you can come out I-70 to my house and we can then take back roads down to I-44 west of the construction. It all depends on how long of a detour you are interested in taking.

What would meeting at your place do to us, timewise?

It would add about a 1/2 hour, but that is without figuring the added time for detours around the construction or sitting in the backup itself.

By heading to your place we can avoid the backups?

Yup.

I live 5 minutes off I-70 about 45 minutes west of STL and have a 45 minute drive via back roads down to I-44 at a point west of where the clusterfawk construction is.

Sounds like a plan.
PM me the directions.

Sumbitch ... I must be getting old ... What day are you all leaving to go down there. I'm planning on leaving Thursday mid AM, should put me in St Louis early PM. Hoping to be in Salem by late afternoon.

By what you've posted Mark, this should put me in the construction zone before the rush hour, if that is any good.

Mapquest gave direction 70 to St. Louis, hit 44 west to Rolla, then take 72 south to Salem, hit 19 south to Rt. K, go west to Rt. ZZ and turn north. FlatNasty in ~one mile on the right.

Mark, you think it would be best to just take 68 into Salem? Looking at the map it looks to be the shortest route. Is it a good road, Mark?

Damn you fawkers who post up while at work ...

I'll be hooking up with the Michigan boys around 1:00PM Thursday. This should bring us to Mark's around 5:00.

The Michigan boys are out, loser-bags. Why don't we all just meet up at my place?

Since Sean is out, and we therefore don't need RV accomodations, maybe we should look into seeing if the air conditioned cabin at FN is available? Plenty of room for just the 4 of us at this point.

I talked to Chris late last night and he informed me that he's not going.

Whatever the reason I'm sure it's a good one. Sorry that I'm not coming.

:dunno: :(

Ya know, it really sucks we started this with several who were interested in going, and now it has whittled it down to just a few.

But, it is going to be a great time anyway.

Mark ... I'm just going to head down ... like a horse to the barn. It's not that long a drive for me, so I'll just meet everyone there. I sure appreciate the offer though.

If everyone else wants to rent a place with air, that's OK. I still just camp. I've spent the money to add some comfort to this activity, so I hate to spend more and not use it. Besides that, I'm not scared of the dark. :viking:

Doesn't matter to me man. We can stick to the original plan. I forgot about Marty and Gary to tell you the truth.

Looks like we may be setup for the FlatNasty Campground/Cabin.
