I'm headed to Big Bear next Thursday for 5 days of camping and wheeling. Looking to run some moderate trails and wondering is anyone has some current info and status on the trails? Did some searching for current info without success.

Taking the XJ open/open with 4" lift and 33's and the TJ open/open with a 2" lift and 31's.

Any info is greatly appreciated, thanks!

there is some good trails up there... u could get the xj through gold mt with that set up but i dont know about the tj.... also if your into fire roads there are a gang of those

We were just there last week. Gold Mountain is open and you should be able to do it. My dad did it in his TJ on 31's locked. There are a lot of fun trails to just explore in Holcom Valley near the John Bull Trail. The Weather is perfect up there right now, you'll have a good time!!

The TJ should be fine. I ran Gold mtn. a few years ago in my bone stock TJ with little issues. Gold mtn. is a very fun and challenging trail for someone in a stock or lightly modified TJ and XJ.

Gold Mountain should definitely be doable and if your buddy doesn't mind the risk of body damage and you're a good spotter, he might be good on John Bull. But I emphasize god spotter and possible body damage. :D

Thanks for all the info. I think Gold Mtn is definitely in and we'll expand our search after that.

The TJ driver, my wife, is a little more ummm conservative than I am on the trail. The TJ has been trimmed here and there and has sliders and after market bumpers with tow points in place. Biggest short coming at the moment is no winch.

My XJ has also seen some of my trimming, like with the TJ, as well as sliders, bumpers etc. Again no winch. Hope to resolve the lack of a winch on at least one rig by Christmas.

OK OK and yes that's a home brew snorkel on a SoCal XJ. May rarely need one here, if at all, but go wheel in east Texas, Louisiana, Arkansas or most of the south and you may see the need. The snorkel actually has improved performance and mileage, so I'm happy with it for that alone.

Time to do some maintenance and packing in preparation of 5 days of fun!

Gold mountian, jacoby canyon, white mountain, dishpan/deepcreek should all be doable with those rigs john bull would be a stretch on the tj's capabilities but it could happen. Have a good trip
