Big Bear - Aug 12th - Deep Creek

I should be leaving Corona at about 1 or 2 on Friday. I'll be at Crab Flats by 3 or 4.

I'll try to be up there at about the same time also.

OK gang, let's meet at the turn-off for Hooks Creek Road and the 173 in Lake Arrowhead at 10:00 AM.

Folks in Big Bear, change our meeting time to 8:45 AM at IHOP parking lot, leaving at 9:00 sharp to make the meeting spot in Arrowhead.

See you all Sunday morning!

One more thing for those going to Big Bear on Friday or Sat AM. There is the annual hot rod car show on Sat and the Ren fair kicks off the same day. We may see lots of folks on the road.....

Ok, it's official: Skwerly and neighbor passenger are in. I'll read the thread again, just got home now, but I'm not sure exactly how to get to this gas station in Arrowhead, I'm used to meeting at the Discovery Center! Anyone have decent directions to this place? I'm going up Sunday.

COOL! I am looking for better directions for you, but basically you take the 330 up the mountain to Running Springs. You will take the 18 (Rim of the World) towards Arrowhead. You can put in the corrdinates for the trail head of Deep Creek and map it:
+34° 16' 14.96", -117° 8' 8.85" (Dishpan Springs Trail)

You will turn off on Kuffel Canyon Road, but there are several small turns to get you to the meeting spot. I am still tyring to get the exact address of the gas station. I suck at this.. I have never really paid attention to the streets or businesses. I just know where to turn....

The other option, is we can meet in Running Springs at the 76 gas station
(32124 Hilltop Blvd Running Springs, CA 92382) and then head over together.
We should be at Running Springs around 9:45.

Give me a call on my cell if you need anyting: 714-319-7135

Yea, that sounds good, I like the address so I can Mapquest it :). Is meeting there ok? How far is the trailhead from this spot?

Ok, just got off the phone with Robert, the underlined address above is in fact the official meeting place, and 9:45 is the official meeting time, for anyone going to Big Bear tomorrow. See y'all there!

Well, it was a great time. We had 6 vehicles - only one from NAXJA (Skwerly). Matty and Kyung was unable to make it due to mechanical issues on Matty's rig.

Our vehicles - 2 XJ's, 1 J, 1 TJ Unlimited, 1 F150 extra cab, & 1 FSJ

The group made it to the trail head abou 10:20. LOTS of motorcyles on the trail, but no other traffic. This was my wife's 2nd time out in her Jeep. She did great! She got alot of air at the top of the waterfall, she took the by-pass. She it scared her, but was an awesome adrenaline rush!

It was a loud POP! I said I think you broke something, we looked and did not imeediately see anything. I headed up the waterfall, then a few minutes later, Skwerly says he did break the u-joint. He drove it off of the trail. My buddy Kevin and a few of us removed the drivers axle shaft, stuffed a rag in the tube, and bolted it back up.

Odette and I ran out of time and could not run Holcomb Creek. We had to get back to Torrance to pick up our son. Skwerly was heading home early as well. My buddies ran Holcomb with no issues.

Here are a few pics. I will upload the rest from home tonight.

Did you guys put the outer shaft back in the hub??

Might be a silly question but just checking.

If you didnt........., dont be driving around too far Skwerly, you might have that front wheel fall off on ya.
